Multi-Car Pileup Injures 13 in Heavy Rainfall on General Paz Avenue
A multi-car crash involving seven vehicles occurred on Buenos Aires’ General Paz Avenue Sunday morning, leaving 13 people injured. Heavy rain contributed to the hazardous conditions, reducing visibility and making roadways slippery.
Multiple Vehicles Involved; Truck Overturned
The incident occurred shortly after 6:30 a.m. at the highest point of Ángel Roffo Street, approximately 500 meters from the Juan B. Justo Bridge and near the Rio de la Plata. One truck overturned, striking the highway guardrail, but fortunately remained upright, preventing a more critical scenario with a potential drop onto the express lane below.
Plastic Returned
“We usually come to work,” one of the truck drivers explained in an eyewitness account given to C5N. He went on to say that he was traveling from Villa Celena to Villa Ortuzal with five colleagues (three men and two women), transporting vegetables hitched to a trailer from the Buenos Aires City Market when a car collided with them.
“The boy collided with us, causing the truck to lose stability and us to hit the guardrail,” he explained during an interview with C5N while adding that he was heading to work in Villa Ortuzal.
A driver in another involved vehicle, traveling from Palermo towards Moreno, told TN, “The truck was coming in the fast lane, and I didn’t know if it was trying to pass me or coming at a faster speed. It absorbed me, and I gently impacted it” The incident left his car unstable due to the slick roadway.
Pictures circulated showing the aftermath of the crash, indicating extensive damage to several vehicles, including the truck.
Emergency Response
City firefighters arrived at the scene to provide immediate assistance. Their actions included managing fuel leaks, disconnecting the truck’s battery to prevent further hazard, and helping to get the heavy statement for training. While several people involved were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the accident scene, three individuals sustained multiple traumas and were transported to major hospitals for further treatment.
Commissioner 10B confirmed to reporters both that breathalyzer tests conducted at the scene returned negative.

## Interview transcript
**Host:** We just heard news of a harrowing multi-vehicle pileup on Buenos Aires’ General Paz Avenue this morning. Joining us now to discuss the incident is [Alex Reed Name], a local traffic expert. Welcome to the show.
**Alex Reed:** Thank you for having me.
**Host:** So, can you tell us what happened?
**Alex Reed:** Yes, unfortunately, heavy rainfall created extremely hazardous driving conditions on General Paz Avenue this morning. Seven vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction collision, leaving 13 people injured.
**Host:** Wow, that’s quite a number of vehicles. I understand that one truck even overturned?
**Alex Reed:** That’s right. Thankfully, while the truck did overturn and hit the guardrail, it remained upright. This prevented a much more serious situation where it could have fallen onto the expressway below. **Host:** Absolutely. How prevalent is this kind of incident during heavy rainfall in Buenos Aires?
**Alex Reed:** Unfortunately, such accidents are not uncommon during periods of heavy rain. The combination of reduced visibility and slippery roads can make driving extremely challenging, and drivers need to be extra cautious during these conditions.
**Host:** What advice would you give to drivers navigating difficult weather conditions?
**Alex Reed:** My primary advice is to slow down and increase following distances. Be extra vigilant, avoid sudden braking or sharp turns, and ensure your headlights are on for improved visibility. If conditions are truly hazardous, it’s best to pull over to a safe location and wait for the weather to improve.
**Host:** Wise words. Thank you so much for sharing your insights, [Alex Reed Name]. We appreciate your time.
**Alex Reed:** You’re welcome.
**Host:** And to our viewers, please stay safe out there on the roads, especially during inclement weather.
