“Me and the Alien MuuMuu” Manga Gets Anime Adaptation
The beloved manga “Me and the Alien MuuMuu”, known in Japan as “Uchujin MuuMuu”, is getting an anime adaptation.
Pony Canyon, a label known for its expanding anime offerings, made the exciting announcement.
Created by Hiroki Miyashita, “Me and the Alien MuuMuu” follows the story of Sakurako, a university student whose ordinary life takes a wild turn when she meets MuuMuu, a charming, cat-like alien who has traveled a vast distance from his distant galaxy to Earth.
MuuMuu’s mission is a peculiar one: he’s eager to learn about Earth’s household appliances in order to take the fascinating technological innovations back to his own world, where technological advancements seem to be a thing of the past.
This unexpected pairing, a human student and an alien obsessed with Earth’s inventions, sets the stage for hilarious chaos and heartwarming adventures. Their daily lives are anything but ordinary as they navigate cultural differences, technological marvels, and the ups and downs of an unlikely friendship. The series is known for its quirky humor and heartwarming bond between Sakurako and MuuMuu.
Fans of the manga can look forward to seeing MuuMuu come to life on screen. Newcomer Momo Harumi will lend her voice to the role of Sakurako, while the experienced voice actress Etsuko Kozakura will portray the charismatic alien MuuMuu.
While further cast and staff announcements are yet to be revealed, the news has already sparked immense excitement among anime enthusiasts.
Miyashita first introduced the intergalactic duo to readers in April 2019. He launched “Uchujin MuuMuu” as a one-shot in Shonengahosha’s Young King Ours magazine, and due to its overwhelming positive reception, he quickly transitioned it into an ongoing series just two months later.
Confirmation of the anime adaptation comes after the release of the seventh volume in Japan.
Adding extra intrigue to the series is the name itself, “Uchujin MuuMuu.”
A clever tribute, the title is a playful homage to Muu magazine, a publication renowned in Japan for its unconventional and often paranormal stories. Other anime and manga, including the popular “Weathering With You” by Makoto Shinkai and the intriguing “Occultic;Nine,” have also drawn inspiration from this magazine known for its unusual tales.
Miyashita’s previous collaboration with author Takeshi Natsuhara saw them successfully adapting their work “Ninkyou Tensei: Isekai no Yakuza Hime,” or “Yakuza Reincarnation”, into a manga series.
Published in Shogakukan’s Magazine Sunday GX in July 2019, it has garnered a dedicated fanbase, releasing its 15th volume to eager readers on August 19, 2024.
At present, neither “Me and the Alien MuuMuu” nor “Yakuza Reincarnation” are available in English.
When will the “Me and the Alien MuuMuu” anime premiere?
