Celebrating Twain: Authors Gather in Carson City for Book Sale and Birthday Bash
Get ready to dive into a world of words and cape cake as the Carson City Historical Society (CCHS) hosts a special book sale and author event honoring Mark Twain’s 189th birthday. Taking place on Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the historic Carriage House, behind the Foreman-Roberts House Museum, this celebration promises a delightful afternoon for book lovers of all ages.
Five talented Northern Nevada authors will be on hand to share their passion for writing, discuss their work, sign books, and even chat a bit about Twain himself.
Bill Brown, an Emmy Award-winning retired local TV anchorman, will be bringing his experience in both journalism and storytelling to the event. Rooted in Northern Nevada, Brown writes captivating books in the horror and science fiction genres. Stephen H. Provost, a literary multi-hyphenate, authors novels, historical nonfiction, and explores various genres within his work as an editor, columnist, copywriter, reporter, and photographer. He’ll be joined by his wife, Sharon Provost, who brings her own spooky expertise to the table with a focus on horror literature.
Andrea Smuts, known for her evocative western novels, will transport readers to the rugged landscapes and captivating histories of the American West. Rounding out the author lineup is Janice Oberding, a prolific writer with over 30 books published. Her diverse portfolio encompasses paranormal stories, historical true crime, and haunting mysteries. As a CCHS board member and one of the event organizers, Oberding is particularly excited to celebrate Twain’s legacy.
“An event like this is a wonderful way to bring together the community and celebrate a literary icon like Mark Twain,” says Oberding. “We’re hoping to create a truly engaging and memorable experience for everyone.”
Complimentary birthday cake and tea will be served throughout the event, adding a touch of sweetness to the literary festivities. Admission is free, making this a welcoming and accessible event for all.
