Easing Traffic and Improving Quality of Life: Variante alla Chiantigiana Takes Shape
After decades of anticipation, the Variante alla Chiantigiana project, a roadway designed to alleviate traffic congestion in the scenic Chianti region of Italy, is finally moving forward.
President Eugenio Giani highlighted the project’s importance, stating: “The choice we made responds to the desire to provide a service to an area of extraordinary beauty and importance. With adequate roads, this area can thus be freed from the grip of traffic. It is a demonstration of a Region attentive to precise knowledge of the territory and a desire to relate to it in synergy, in this case with the municipality of Bagno a Ripoli, to improve the quality of life of citizens. I would like to thank the current administration and the former mayor of Bagno a Ripoli Francesco Casini for their commitment, during whose mandate considerable progress was made towards the creation of the infrastructure.”
The Variante alla Chiantigiana will bypass the town of Grassina, connecting the heart of Chianti with Florence, ultimately streamlining traffic flow and reducing congestion. The project’s second phase, spanning the Capannuccia to Mortinete stretch,
marks a significant milestone.
“This second lot, which will be built between Capannuccia and the Mortinete area will allow the Variante alla Chiantigiana to be fully functional, bypassing the town of Grassina and streamlining traffic between Chianti and the capital city. It is a work that has been awaited for over 40 years, and finally, thanks to the commitment of the Region, the metropolitan city, the contracting authority for the work, and the municipalities of Bagno a Ripoli and Greve, it is about to become reality. The funding provided by the Region for the second lot marks a fundamental stage for the realization of the work.
Thanks to President Eugenio Giani who had made the commitment to support this very important work for the south-eastern quadrant of Florence and is keeping it,”declares Francesco Pignotti, the mayor of Bagno a Ripoli.
The project has garnered strong support from local officials and residents who recognize its potential to enhance the quality of life in the region. The Variante alla Chiantigiana promises not only smoother commutes but also improved safety and a reduction in air pollution.
