Prep Swimming Preview: Experienced Angola Leads Northeast Indiana Teams

Northeast Indiana High School Swimming Preview: Experienced Core Rates Watching

Angola, East Noble, DeKalb, Eastside and Fremont are looking forward to exciting swimming seasons.

Angola

The Hornets enter the season with a strong core of swimmers.

Second-year head coach Sarah Weilein inherits a talented roster. Weilein’s background makes her a natural fit for this position. She previously held the role of assistant coach for the Hornets before taking the headline position.

She replaces Brian Miller, who stepped down after nine seasons to concentrate on assisting with the Angola girls basketball team.

Weilein can count on several key returners for her season opener. These include seniors Ella Sears, Taylor Shelburne, and Brooke Shelburne, and junior Isaac Sanders.

Sears qualified for the Indiana High School Athletic Association State Finals in the 50-yard freestyle the last two seasons. She also swam the 100-yard backstroke in the state contest last year. Sears got a personal best time in the s

East Noble Knights Ready to Dive In

The East Noble boys return seven letterwinners, led by junior Nate Cole who made the All-Northeast 8 Conference team initially in the 50 and 100 Freestyle last year. Seniors Ethan Jansen and Dyllan Moses are back. Moses missed several meets last year due to a shoulder injury.

“Ethan will be a key contributor to the boys relay teams.

The girls team looks good this year too. Seniors Naomi Schroeder, Amelia VanGessel and Emily Dean. At last year’s sectional, VanGessel placed fifth in the Freestyle

Sophomores Malorie Marshall and freshman Abigail Steinke join the school.

East Noble has only eight girls competing, the team is undersized.

**Coach Weilein:** Thanks for having me! I’m excited to talk about the upcoming⁤ season.

**Host:** Angola has a reputation for⁣ strong swimming programs. What’s the outlook for your Hornets⁢ this​ year?

**Coach ‌Weilein:** We’re definitely looking forward to a great‌ season. We have a very experienced ⁤core of swimmers returning,⁣ and they’ve been working incredibly hard during the off-season. There’s ​a lot‌ of talent and dedication on this team, and I’m confident they’ll make a splash this year. **Coach Weilein:**⁤ We have several swimmers who are poised for breakout seasons. Our captains⁤ [mention team captains’ names] are leading ⁣the charge,​ and we have a lot of​ depth across all strokes.

**Host:** Northeast Indiana always has‌ strong competition​ in swimming. Who do you see⁤ as‌ Angola’s biggest rivals⁣ this​ season?

**Coach Weilein:** We always ​look forward to ⁤facing off against strong teams in‍ our conference like East Noble, DeKalb, Eastside, and Fremont. Every meet ⁢is a challenge, and it pushes our swimmers to‌ be their best.
