Kade is back on the field, but now there’s an added layer to his story – a surgically implanted defibrillator snug under his left armpit. It’s a constant reminder of what could have been, a silent guardian ensuring his return to the sport he loves is safe.
Before the traumatic event on August 25th, Kade was a rising star, already prepping for an exciting tour with the NSW team. Now, being back on the pitch feels particularly special.
“Like, I’m here now, so why should I hold back?” is his unwavering mindset.
Though his team lost to Newcastle City in his comeback match, managing just three runs from 21 balls, these early proving grounds don’t diminish his appetite for play.
He’s closer than ever to Jed, his old coach, the man to thank for keeping him here.

“He really is part of the family now – I can’t thank Jed enough,” says Kade, who returns the compliment with gratitude:
“He thought at first I might have had an epileptic attack, but then I just had no pulse or anything” Kade explains. “He knew something was definitely wrong, and he definitely knew what to do.”

Finally, his mother Kelly mentions worries laced with pride: “It gave him a little bit of extra motivation, “and he took that on board.”
Kade added.,
“I think it’s going to drive me even more” he asserts, with a subtle smile.
“I’m a very driven person … I believe in myself.”

**Interviewer:** Welcome back, Kade! It’s incredible to see you back on the field after your recent health scare. Can you tell us a bit about what happened?
**Kade:** Thanks for having me. It was definitely a frightening experience. I went into what’s called cardiac arrest during a game. [[1]](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/books/NBK568720/) Essentially, my heart just stopped beating suddenly.
**Interviewer:** That must have been terrifying. What do doctors believe caused the cardiac arrest?
**Kade:** That’s what we’re still trying to figure out. It’s been a long process of testing and evaluations, and my doctors are doing everything they can to determine the underlying cause. Finding the ”why” behind what happened is really important to prevent it from happening again.
**Interviewer:** We’re all rooting for you Kade. It’s amazing to see your strength and determination to get back to doing what you love.
**Kade:** Thank you. It hasn’t been easy, but the support from my family, friends, and the community has been crucial. I’m incredibly grateful for their love and encouragement.
