During the “Pavilion” book weekend, visitors will be able to buy various books at publishers’ prices and enrich their home library with both the latest literature and literary classics. As many as 25 free events await visitors at the culture bar “Pavilionas” from November 29 to December 1!
Masters of literature and art
The festival will start with Jonos Meko’s book “Bright flashes of beauty”. Short life stories” presentation. The book contains a skillfully written autobiography of the creator, in which Mr. Mekas tells about himself, using incredible and surprising fragments of the lives of the people he met. The living classic Tomas Venclova and the art critic, poet Laima Kreivytė will talk about the sincere, funny and inspiring book.

Alfonsas Andriuškevičius, who is rarely seen in public and is missed by many, the laureate of the National Prize, poet and art critic, will appear at the presentation of his book “12 ESĖ ir AA BIBLIOTEKA”. According to the writer Giedras Radvilavičiūtė: “When I try to define the uniqueness of A. Andriuškevičius’ style, it is difficult. But it is enough to read a few sentences of any essay to recognize this author…”
There will also be an opportunity to meet another National Prize laureate, poet Donald Kajok, who will present his diaries “Listinas privitamus”, written in 1979-1990. The intimate text reveals a summary of the writer’s creative path, a cross-section of cultural life at that time, observations, notes of everyday life.
The evening of poet and essayist Rolandas Rastauskas, who left us in September, will be held on Friday. The commemoration is organized by the “Eureka!” bookstore, with which R. Rastauskas had a 20-year friendship, and he was also the bookstore’s Godfather, as he came up with this name for the bookstore. The focus of the evening will be a poetry table set up in the bookstore by RoRa, an avid poetry reader and translator. So during the evening we will hear a lot of his favorite poetry, memories and songs.
Bookstore manager Eurika Stogevičienė will remember how RoRa “brought” Marina Abramovič to Lithuania. Poet Agnė Žagrakalytė will invite you to move to Belgium, where city explorer, wanderer RoRa liked to visit, and will tell you about silver bullets from pockets, handbags made from bluesturgi, earrings and even about Brussels sushi – this evening should help you get to know him better.
Bodies and pleasures
The festival will end with the presentation of two interesting but very different books by poets – Austėja Jakas’ debut poetry book “Blue Pleasures” and Tomas Petrulis’ poetic prose book “The Body of a Thing”. The author will be interviewed by literary critic, writer Virginija Kulvinskaitė. Tomas Petrulis, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history (medieval studies) and a master’s degree in religious studies, worked in archives, manuscripts and museums.
Two of his previously published books of poetry, which received the attention of critics, were included in the twelve most creative books compiled by the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore, “Triukšmo gyvatė” was included in the top five of the “Book of the Year” election. “The Body of a Thing” is the author’s latest book of poetic prose. Austėja Jakas – artist, traveler. Graduated from graphic design studies in Vilnius. Currently lives and works in Austria. “Blue Pleasures” is the author’s first book that received a lot of attention.
What else to pay attention to?
The organizers of the festival suggest paying attention to such books as Georgi Gospodinov’s latest novel “The Hideout of Time”, which won the prestigious “The International Booker” prize for the author already known to Lithuanian readers. You will also hear about the book “Passion according to GH” by literary classic Clarice Lispector, in which the author weaves the forbidden fabric of life: embarking on an epiphanic introspection, raising questions of identity, humanized life and the meaning of feelings.
The book weekend of “Pavilion” will host the discussion of the book “Blood Meridian” by Cormac McCarthy, which was awaited by literary gourmands and expertly translated by Vidas Morkūnas. You should also not miss the discussion of the first part of the septology “About volume calculation” by the Danish author Solvej Balle, in which the writer and translator of the book, Ieva Toleikytė, will also participate. She was the first to share this discovery of the wonderful Danish author on social networks, so the publishing house had no choice but to publish it as soon as possible.
After intensive book presentations, we invite you to see the performance of the young rapper Pijaus Opera on Friday. We are thrilled to host this annual celebration of literature. Visitors will be treated to 25 free events over the course of the weekend. We’ve curated a diverse lineup featuring renowned authors, poets, and critics. Not only will attendees have a chance to meet and interact with these literary giants, but they can also buy various books at publishers’ prices, adding to their personal libraries.
**That’s amazing! Are there any particular highlights you’d recommend?**
We have a jam-packed schedule! We’re kicking things off by celebrating Jonas Mekas’s autobiographical work “Bright flashes of beauty. Short life stories” with Tomas Venclova and Laima Kreivytė. Another highlight is the appearance of Alfonsas Andriuškevičius, a National Prize Laureate who rarely makes public appearances.
