Dundalk IT Students Gain Industry Insights at Output Belfast Music Conference

Dundalk Students Immerse Themselves in the Music Industry at Belfast‘s Largest Music Conference

Dundalk Institute of Technology ( Dundalk IT) music students recently attended Ireland’s premier music industry event, Output Belfast, gaining invaluable insight into the dynamic world of music production, performance, and business.

This annual event, presented by Belfast City Council / Belfast City of Music and programmed by Score Draw Music, is held in Belfast and attracted participants from across the country. Students from the BA/BA (Hons) in Audio & Music Production and the BA/BA (Hons) in Music & Performance Technologies at Dundalk IT had the opportunity to attend a variety of masterclasses, workshops, panels, and talks covering all aspects of the music industry.

“The trip provided a great opportunity to network and meet important and influential figureheads in the music industry and help grant a deeper insight into the more professional aspects of music as an art form, as well as having an incredibly diverse and interesting selection of panelists and topics,” said Fae Birmingham, a first-year BA/BA (Hons) Music and Performance Technologies student.

Industries heavy hitters such as Gary Lightbody, lead vocalist of Snow Patrol, Nicky Bignell, Head of Music Licensing at the BBC, and Kim Hawes, Tour Manager for Motorhead/Lemmy, participated as speakers, sharing their experiences and knowledge with the aspiring music professionals.

Hands-on Learning and Real-World Insights

The conference provided Dundalk IT students with hands-on learning opportunities through specialized workshops and masterclasses. They could enhance their creative skills in areas like songwriting, performing, and music production. They also received valuable insight into the business side of the music industry, including management, marketing, and developing industry relationships.

Panel discussions led by leading music industry professionals offered a valuable glimpse into current industry trends and potential future career paths. The students returned to Dundalk with a broadened understanding of the opportunities and challenges in the ever-evolving world of music.
