Looking for ways to embrace the magic of the holiday season? Sterling, Colorado, offers a delightful duo of festive performances sure to warm your heart and spark your imagination.
A Dance Through the Land of Sweets
From December 14th to 15th, the Dorothy Corsberg Theatre inside E.S. French Hall at Northeastern Junior College will be transformed into a world of enchantment with the Northeastern Dance Academy’s annual Sterling Community Nutcracker Remix. This beloved seasonal tradition, based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s tale “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,” promises a captivating experience for the whole family.
Experience the timeless story of Clara, a young girl who receives a nutcracker for Christmas. Little does she know that this charming gift will come to life, transforming into a prince who bravely battles an army of mice. Together, they journey to the magical Land of Sweets, where they are welcomed by the enchanting Sugar Plum Fairy and a dazzling array of candy characters.
Under the expert direction of Ashley Lynch and Angie Pomeroy, the Northeastern Dance Academy’s performance will feature a vibrant medley of dance styles. Talented performers of all ages and skill levels will gracefully bring the classic tale to life, ensuring a memorable experience for both longtime fans and those discovering “The Nutcracker” for the first time.
Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the studio, by calling 970-580-7142, or by visiting www.northeasterndanceacademy.com.
Virginia’s Timeless Question: A Radio Play for the Soul
As December draws to a close, the Sterling Middle School auditorium will host a timeless tale of belief and childhood wonder. From December 20th to 21st, the Sterling Miracle Players will present “Yes Virginia, There is a Santa,” a heartwarming radio play that captures the essence of Christmas spirit.
This captivating performance tells the true story of Virginia O’Hanlon, an eight-year-old who, faced with doubts about Santa Claus from her skeptical friends, writes a poignant letter to the editor of the New York Sun. Her simple yet profound question—”Is there a Santa Claus?”—touches the heart of the editor, Ed Mitchell, who entrusts the task of answering her query to Frank Church, a reporter grappling with his own personal struggles.
Church’s quest to find a truthful and meaningful response to Virginia’s question leads him on a journey of self-discovery, ultimately resulting in an editorial that has become one of the most quoted and cherished pieces of writing in history.
Prepare to be moved by the Sterling Miracle Players’ performance of “Yes Virginia, There is a Santa.” It’s a captivating reminder of the power of belief, the magic of childhood, and the enduring spirit of the holiday season. Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on both nights.
