Notably, a one-time provision of 1,724 million francs for long-service employee benefits was recorded in 2024. Without this event, the company’s "Trading Profit" would have been significantly higher.
"While sales are undoubtedly important, they shouldn’t come at any cost," Alberts explains. "Strong margins are what empower us to reinvest in new store formats, expand our product range, and ultimately, support our valued employees."

"By implementing robust cost controls, we’ve been able to offer consistent pricing, which provides our customers with a sense of certainty during their daily shopping decisions," Alberts adds.

Another strategic move has been the success of Spar’s own brands, which now represent almost a quarter of total sales. "Our own brands allow us to deliver exceptional quality at affordable prices," Alberts notes.
