Scania delivers collection trucks powered by biomethane/natural gas to Marquise Ambiental

Marquise Ambiental, one of the largest environmental services and solutions companies in solid waste management, urban and industrial services and waste transformation in the country and which operates a fleet of more than 1 thousand pieces of equipment, received at the Scania factory, this Wednesday, fair (27), within Sustainable Transport Week, promoted by the Swedish manufacturer, three trucks powered by biomethane and/or compressed natural gas. Marquise is implementing a pilot project with collection trucks powered by biomethane and/or natural gas in Fortaleza (CE), in the EcoFor fleet, and in Osasco (SP) in the EcoOsasco fleet. The concessionaire responsible for the business and support for Marquise will be Casa Scania Conterranea (CE). In São Paulo, support will be provided by Casa Scania Codema.

Scania’s most sustainable P 280 XT models will circulate at Marquise Ambiental units in Fortaleza (CE) and Osasco (SP). If fueled with biomethane, emissions reduction can reach up to 90%

In addition to these collection trucks powered by biomethane and/or natural gas, Marquise Ambiental has already contracted with Scania to purchase another 18 units that will be delivered throughout 2025.

Sustainable transport is defined by the UN as the provision of services and infrastructure for the mobility of people and goods in a way that promotes economic and social development, without compromising the environment. The technology for using biomethane as fuel for collection trucks is part of Marquise’s constant search for innovation and efficiency gains within operations, combined with sustainability.

Fuel of the Future

The Future Fuel Law, Law 14,993/2024, established programs to encourage the production and use of sustainable fuels such as biomethane as an alternative to fossil fuels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

Marquise Ambiental, in partnership with MDC, is a pioneer in the implementation of the largest and most modern biomethane plant in the North and Northeast, GNR Fortaleza in Ceará, it was one of the first Brazilian companies to develop biomethane as a fuel from solid waste and now invests in a pioneering fleet of collection trucks powered by biomethane.

“Our goal is to develop sustainable solutions using technologies and the best equipment available on the market. We invested in the biomethane-powered fleet to operate in locations where we will be able to develop a complete cycle in the future in which we collect waste, from it we generate biogas, produce biomethane and supply our fleet with renewable fuel, generating value for the production chain of solid waste”, explains Paulo Studart, operations director at Marquise Ambiental. To achieve these purposes, Marquise Ambiental researched the best equipment on the market to meet operational needs and opted for the Scania model.

“Scania begins a partnership with Marquise Ambiental that will bear many fruits. These are two companies that have sustainability at the center of their actions. Scania is the pioneer in truck technology powered by compressed natural gas and/or biomethane in Brazil. We started sales in 2019 and so far we have sold more than 1,400 units. It is a consolidated product on the market and brings energy efficiency in reducing emissions”, highlights Alex Nucci, director of Solutions Sales at Scania Commercial Operations Brazil. “Scania is leading the transition to a more sustainable transport system. Over the last five years, we have created and pioneered a market that did not exist by partnering with producers, distributors and public gas companies. Today, we have blue corridors, gas coverage across practically the entire Brazilian coast and the network of fueling stations is expanding to the interior of the country and the Center-West. And, we will continue to support and offer all support to our customers.”

“It is a huge satisfaction to be able to contribute in some way to this irreversible wave that generates benefits for the entire production chain, for society and the environment. Together, Marquise, Scania and Conterrânea took a big step towards making the sustainability flag viable, working increasingly towards a lower environmental impact”, says Adriano Ventura, general director of Casa Scania Conterrânea.

Modelo Scania P 280 XT

The truck model chosen to begin these operations is Scania’s P 280 XT semi-heavy model, which has a 9L Euro 6 engine (which complies with the latest emissions law), and can receive both compressed natural gas and biomethane in any proportion. , and delivers a storage capacity, in its eight cylinders, of up to 230 cubic meters of gas, providing satisfactory autonomy for urban waste collection operations. Furthermore, the brand’s vocational truck has a series of specific configurations for the collection segment. The cabin is P with XT off-road package. The model is already equipped with the Opticruise G25CM gearbox, the same one used in the heavy Scania Super, which guarantees faster gear changes.

“Technically, Scania’s P 280 XT model meets all operational requirements and promises to be a major paradigm shift in the segment”, informs Pablo Mota, national maintenance manager at Marquise Ambiental.

Biomethane, a renewable energy source that can also be generated from vinasse, straw and filter cake – waste from sugarcane processing, can reduce gas emissions by up to 90%. The benefits are also directly linked to the health of the population due to the reduction in nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter, which are much lower compared to diesel.

The pioneering Scania semi-heavy and heavy trucks powered by gas (compressed natural and/or biomethane) are designed for medium and long distances. Its engines are from the Otto Cycle (the same concept as automobiles) and are not converted from diesel to gas, they have a factory warranty, reliable technology, consistent performance and power similar to diesel. In addition to being quieter. The powers offered are: 280, 340, 420 and 460 horsepower.
