EURO-MED on Sunday (10/11) urged international organizations and the UN to officially declare a famine emergency in the northern Gaza Strip, Palestine, after access to aid was closed by Israel for more than 50 days.
“Israel’s use of hunger as a weapon is one element of the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip, including mass killings and forced displacement,” the Geneva-based human rights watchdog group said in a statement.
According to Euro-Med, tens of thousands of Palestinians, including patients in three hospitals in northern Gaza, are in immediate danger of starvation or long-term health impacts due to Israel’s illegal blockade.

The statement stated that Israel had succeeded in separating the area from other areas in the Gaza Strip by blocking the entry of aid since October 1.
Since October 5, Israeli forces have destroyed hundreds of homes and shelters, killing around 1,900 Palestinians, wounding more than 4,000 others, and forcing tens of thousands to flee.
Meanwhile, other Palestinians who are still living in homes and shelters are in dire conditions.

It also stated that residents of northern Gaza were subjected to deliberate attacks and lived without access to food, water and medicine. They also become targets if they try to leave to find food or water.
The statement also said that Palestinians there had not fully recovered from previous famines that occurred in late 2023 and in recent months.
According to Euro-Med, tens of thousands of refugees from northern Gaza in Gaza City have difficulty purchasing basic necessities due to prices and limited supplies and aid due to the Israeli blockade.
Conditions in Wadi, southern Gaza, are no different, because Israel continues to limit the entry of aid trucks.
“The entire population of the Gaza Strip is now dependent on humanitarian aid from abroad due to lack of work, liquidity problems and the collapse of local production capacity,” the statement said. (Ant/Z-2)
