Halloween-Themed Polling Station in Bogor: A Spooky Success!
Bogor, West Java, has redefined the concept of electoral participation, not through mundane pamphlets or boring speeches, but with a sprinkle of Halloween magic! Yes, you heard that right! While most places are decking the halls, Bogor decided to deck the polls—literally.
A Ghoulish Welcome at TPS 05
At polling station TPS 05 in Kebon Kalapa Village, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto waddled in, not with a wave and a frown but a grin as wide as the Jack-o’-lanterns themselves. He praised what could only be described as the most creative election booth since the invention of the ballot box—the Halloween-themed polling station!
Because who wants to feature boring red, white, and blue when you can have black coffins and costumed citizens? In a bold move to increase political participation among the youth and women in the area, the KPPS decided to roll out the most whimsical party since the last Halloween bash!
Reports suggest that some voters joined in, sporting costumes ranging from Dracula to little ghosts—because what’s scarier than the thought of your vote not counting?
Costumes & Cardboard: The New Election Chic
Now, let’s talk decor! We have an “old building” made of cardboard strategically placed between a registration table and a black coffin. Honest to goodness, if politics doesn’t work out for these folks, they’ve clearly got a future in scenic design for Halloween attractions!
When asked about the budget for such a creative endeavor, the head of RW 05, Ribut Sudarsono, cheekily remarked that they barely broke the bank, mainly using cardboard and plastic. Talk about resourcefulness! Perhaps they can give a masterclass on how to make a party out of thin air—or at least thin cardboard!
The Impact: A Spooky Success
The results? A whopping 437 voters trooped in from three neighborhoods registered at TPS 05, all itching to cast their ballots and soak up the eerie atmosphere. “Alhamdulillah” exclaimed Sudarsono, clearly satisfied that their whimsical effort paid off.
It seems the essence of creativity in civic engagement doesn’t just dwell in the ancient halls of politics. Representatives including the Central Bogor sub-district head and police chief came to show their support, which feels less like a political visit and more like the cast of a very odd sitcom trying to boost attendance at a local festival.
Creativity Breeds Participation
It’s a great concoction of community engagement wrapped in a spooky vibe, proving that sometimes you have to get a little weird to get people involved! More importantly, this polling station has shown that adding a flicker of fun can lead to higher civic participation—something everyone who spends evenings in town halls should probably take notes on!
Final Thoughts
The initiative taken by TPS 05 is a shining example of how to stir the pot for political engagement. Who knew that the key to increasing voter turnout lies in costumes and cardboard? Keep this in mind for future elections: when it comes to boosting turnout, sometimes you need to summon your inner ghost and get a little crafty!

Bogor, West Java (ANTARA) – In a vibrant display of creativity, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto visited a polling station in Bogor city on Wednesday, taking note of its striking Halloween-themed decorations during the regional head elections.
According to a statement from the voting organizing group (KPPS), the innovative Halloween theme at polling station TPS 05 in RW 05, Kebon Kalapa Village, was strategically selected to bolster political engagement among youth and women in the community.
At TPS 05, the festive atmosphere attracted various voters who embraced the theme, with some appearing in elaborate Halloween costumes, including others dressed as Dracula and playful children transformed into whimsical ghosts.
Inside the polling station, creativity was on full display with an eye-catching cardboard facility, featuring a black coffin prominently positioned between the administrative registration table and the voting booth.
“We come here and appreciate this. It is necessary to take initiative and be creative to attract people to come to the polling station. Other places had creativity as well, but this one is a bit different,” Sugiarto expressed, acknowledging the unique approach taken at this polling venue.
Meanwhile, the head of RW (community unit) 05, Ribut Sudarsono, reported that a total of 437 voters arrived from three designated neighborhoods (RT) registered at TPS 05 Kebon Kalapa.
He shared that the KPPS team behind the Halloween decorations managed to keep costs low, primarily repurposing materials like cardboard and plastic for their festive setup. “The goal is to attract the voters. Alhamdulillah (Thank God), it had an impact,” he remarked, pleased about the turnout.
In addition, Sudarsono noted that the event received attention from significant local figures, including the members of the Bogor City Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), with both the deputy home minister and the Central Bogor sub-district head alongside the police chief, who visited and advocated for participation at the polling station.
“We prepared this since Sunday. We were also assisted by the Kebon Kalapa village head,” Sudarsono added, highlighting the collaborative effort that brought the initiative to fruition.
