Kannauj accident: Tragedy struck early Wednesday morning on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway, as five esteemed doctors lost their lives in a horrific accident near the city of Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh. According to police reports, the vehicle transporting the medical professionals unexpectedly crashed into a divider before being violently struck by an oncoming truck.
The devastating incident, which unfolded at Point 196 in Tirva, occurred after the SUV the doctors were traveling in lost control, collided with the median divider, and subsequently veered into the opposite lane, directly into the path of a heavy truck.
Circle Officer of Tirva, Dr. Priyanka Bajpai, confirmed the heartbreak for the medical community as all the victims were dedicated doctors returning from a wedding celebration in Lucknow. Tragically, their journey back to Etawah was cut short by this catastrophic event.
Identifying the victims was a somber task for authorities, as they confirmed that the deceased included Dr. Aniruddh Sharma, 29, from Agra; Santosh Maurya, 30, from Ravi Dass Nagar; Arun Kumar, 32, from Kannauj; Narendra Gangwar, 32, from Bareilly; and Rakesh Singh, 36, from Bijnore. This loss leaves a significant void in their respective communities.
Jaiveer Singh, a fellow passenger, sustained critical injuries during the crash and was immediately transported to a medical university for urgent treatment. The vehicle, reportedly operating at a high speed, faced a disastrous turn of events when the driver may have momentarily fallen asleep, leading to the vehicle careening out of control.
How the accident occurred
The accident occurred at approximately 3 am as the high-speed SUV abruptly lost control and collided with the median divider. Tragically, this led to a subsequent collision with a truck coming from the opposite direction.
According to Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Anand, the sequence of events was both alarming and heartbreaking. The SUV’s crash into the median divider initiated a catastrophic chain reaction, catapulting the vehicle into oncoming traffic. Sadly, the consequences were dire, resulting in the immediate deaths of the four doctors and one lab technician on impact. Additionally, a PG student sustained severe injuries and was hurriedly transported to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Medical College in Tirwa for critical care.
