United Nations Human Rights Council election, Saudi Arabia faces defeat

Saudi Arabia failed in the election of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

According to a foreign news agency, elections were held for the next three-year term of the United Nations Human Rights Council, in which five countries, including Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Nepal, China and Saudi Arabia, were competing for four seats in the Asia-Pacific Group. .

The election was held by secret ballot in which Pakistan secured a record number of votes and managed to secure a maximum of 169 out of 191 votes. Uzbekistan won with 164 votes, Nepal with 150 votes, China with 139 votes, while Saudi Arabia got only 90 votes and faced defeat.

International humanitarian organizations strongly opposed Saudi Arabia by accusing it of human rights violations. Elections were held yesterday for 15 seats and other countries elected as members include France, United Kingdom, Russia, Bolivia, Gabon, Malawi, Mexico, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Ukraine and Cuba. The term of successful countries will start from January 1.

The Human Rights Council has 47 members and the election is divided into 5 geographic groups based on regions, including Africa, Asia Pacific, Latin America, the Caribbean, Western Europe and Eastern Europe. The US has left the Human Rights Council accusing it of being anti-Israel.
