Airtel Gabon overwhelmed by a general strike for 9 years of unpaid bonuses –

Airtel Gabon staff decided on Tuesday to stop work every day from 11 a.m. to force Airtel Money to pay the bonus promised to them when the two companies separated in 2015.

The story between Airtel Gabon and Airtel Money is not known to the general public. According to sources close to the company, in 2015 the group decided to split the company in two. On one side Airtel and on the other Airtel Money. Each company has its Managing Director.

Everything is going well. Except that Airtel Money uses almost all of Airtel’s staff for its optimal operation. Airtel staff realize that they work for two companies but only get salary from one company. This is when a bonus has been promised to Airtel staff since 2015.

According to several sources contacted by the editorial staff of Gabonactu.com, the bonus was never paid and this is what justifies the current rise in anger.

From Tuesday, the staff of all agencies, tired of waiting for 9 years, left the workstation to find themselves at assembly points waiting for the end of the service hour to go home. A minimum service is observed which does not necessarily penalize users of this mobile telephone operator and internet provider.

A source close to Airtel management confirmed the opening of negotiations on Wednesday. They are held between the General Management, the staff representatives and the Ministry of Labor.

Airtel is one of the two mobile telephone operators in Gabon. The company was created from the ashes of Celtel founded by Sudanese billionaire Mo Ibrahim who sold his brand and all its subsidiaries to the Indian multinational Barthi based in New Delhi, itself founded in 1976 by billionaire Sunil Mittal.
