BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Peyton Richardson, a standout swimmer from Crystal Lake, Illinois, was honored as the MIAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week for the third time in four weeks on Tuesday, November 26, in recognition of his exceptional performance at the annual Grace Goblirsch Invite.
Richardson spearheaded the Gusties to victory at the meet, securing three individual triumphs and notching a second-place finish in two other events. He dominated the competition in the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 1:45.40, and repeated this feat in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:57.99, and the 100 butterfly with a blistering 50.87.
As a key member of the Gustie 400 freestyle relay team, Richardson helped the squad secure a second-place finish with a respectable time of 3:11.96. Additionally, he finished second individually in the 400 IM, achieving a time of 4:20.55, marking his first second-place finish of the year.
The Gustie men’s impressive performance earned them the top spot at the meet with an imposing total score of 1457, doubling that of the second-place Johnnies, who tallied 727 points. This win contributes to the Gusties’ unbeaten streak, having successfully navigated one invite and four dual meets.
Richardson’s remarkable speed in the 100 butterfly earned him the top mark in the conference, with his time of 50.87 seconds outpacing the competition. Notably, he also holds the fastest times in the 50 fly (23.85), 200 fly (1:47.17), and 200 IM (1:58.82).
This prestigious award marks Richardson’s third Athlete of the Week selection this season and his seventh overall, solidifying his position as a leading force in the conference. His three awards this season represent a personal best and highlight the Gusties’ dominance, as they have swept every men’s swim weekly award in November.
The Gusties will look to maintain their momentum as they head to the Macalester Invite in St. Paul on December 6, where they will face fellow MIAC teams, including the host Scots, Hamline, and St. Olaf.
