Pumper, tear gas and batons: clashes between police and demonstrators in Brussels following the arrival of Jordan Bardella

(Opening music plays, followed by the sound of a sarcastic, dry tone)

Well, well, well, folks! It seems like the lovely city of Brussels has turned into a right old mess, hasn’t it? (chuckles) I mean, who needs a quiet evening stroll along the canal when you can have a bunch of protesters clashing with the police, eh? (in a mock excited tone) Oh, the thrill! The drama! The sheer… well, chaos!

(Sarcastically) Now, I know what you’re thinking. “What’s all the fuss about, then?” Well, it appears that the infamous Jordan Bardella, the president of the National Rally (RN), decided to pay a visit to the Hungarian House in Brussels to sign some books and whatnot. And, of course, this being the era of instant outrage, a bunch of people got their knickers in a twist and decided to take to the streets.

(In a mocking tone) Oh, the horror! The sheer audacity! I mean, who does this Bardella chap think he is, anyway? Trying to peddle his wares and spread his… (pauses for comedic effect)… questionable ideas to the good people of Brussels? (chuckles)

(With a bit of a smirk) Now, I’m not one to condone violence, but I do love a good protest. The passion! The conviction! The poorly made signs! (laughs) I mean, come on, folks, if you’re going to protest, at least put some effort into your signage. “The far right kills”? How original. How… (yawns)…tedious.

(In a more serious tone) But, of course, the real story here is the escalation of violence between the police and the protesters. I mean, it’s not exactly the most… (pauses, searching for the right word)…diplomatic way to handle things, is it? Batons, tear gas, and water cannons? It’s like they’re trying to recreate the Battle of Waterloo or something! (dramatically) “Charge, men! Charge! (In a high-pitched voice) And don’t forget to bring the firecrackers!”

(With a hint of sarcasm) And, of course, the organizers of the demonstration had to get in on the action, didn’t they? “Brussels remains anti-fascist”? (in a mocking tone) Oh, how noble. How… (yawns again)…predictable. I mean, it’s not like they’re just trying to stir up some trouble and get their faces on the news or anything. (winks)

(In a more observational tone) You know, folks, it’s interesting to note that the event was hosted by the House of Hungary, which is apparently a hotspot for far-right sympathizers. (raises an eyebrow) And, of course, the book is published by Fayard, which is owned by the billionaire Vincent Bolloré. (smirks) Ah, the usual suspects, eh?

(In a dry tone) Anyway, that’s all for now, folks. Just another day, another protest, another batch of poorly made signs. (chuckles) But hey, at least it’s not boring, right? (winks)

(Closing music plays)

As of 4:30 p.m. this Wednesday, the police ordered the Stib to close the Parc metro station and blocked access to many streets surrounding the neutral zone. This is where the Hungarian House is located, where Jordan Bardella was for the signing session.

Clashes took place this Wednesday at the end of the day between the police and demonstrators during a gathering of several hundred people in the capital, organized as a sign of protest against the arrival of the president of the National Rally (RN), Jordan Bardella . The latter was expected at 6:30 p.m. at the Maison de la Hungary to present his first book and give a signing session.

From 6:00 p.m., the crowd gathered at the intersection of Avenue des Arts and Rue de la Loi, at the call of several collectives including the Antifascist Coordination of Belgium (CAB), the Popular University of Brussels, the Ades network or the Antifascist Front of Liège. “The far right kills“, displayed the sign of a demonstrator.

Around 6:30 p.m., some demonstrators tried to force the police blockade, before police officers drew batons, tear gas and jets of water on the crowd. Firecrackers and fireworks were then thrown by some demonstrators.

“Brussels remains anti-fascist”

Faced with the rise of fascism and the far right throughout the world“, the organizers of the demonstration reiterate the need to mobilize so that “Brussels remains anti-fascist”.

According to the collectives, it is no coincidence that “Jordan Bardella’s book is published by Fayard – under the control of billionaire Vincent Bolloré – and if the event is hosted by the House of Hungary, then Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is the model to follow for all extremes -right of the world”.
