THE Executive Board of the Indonesian Gymnastics Association stated that the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) has provided a quota for Indonesia to include nine athletes when hosting the 2025 World Gymnastics Championships.

“Thank God, we got a quota from FIG, namely five male athletes, four female athletes,” said PB Persani General Chair Ita Yuliati to the media crew when meeting the athletes training at the Raden Inten GOR, East Jakarta, Friday (22/11).

He explained that initially, Indonesia only got a quota of six athletes (three men and three women), but FIG then gave an additional quota to nine athletes.

Ita said that the addition of this quota was an important momentum because more and more Indonesian gymnastics athletes were able to appear and experience the experience of competing at the world championships.

Persani is trying to ensure that athletes can perform optimally as hosts of the 2025 World Gymnastics Championships which will take place in October 2025.

Efforts to prepare athletes, he said, are already underway through training camps in Jakarta.

Apart from that, Persani also immediately sent four athletes, two men and two women, to train for one month in Japan.

“They were sent to Japan as part of long-term training to face the world championships and other international championships,” he said.

Apart from these four athletes, other athletes in the form of four men and three women who are undergoing training camps in Jakarta will also be selected to determine who will represent Indonesia at the upcoming world championships.

Ita said that his party had received directions from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) to hold long-term training because there were many championships other than the World Gymnastics Championships that would be participated in, such as the SEA Games and the Asian Championship.

He said that several strategic steps being prepared for the future include training camps in the country, sending athletes to train abroad, and bringing in foreign coaches to train the athletes.

“So the TC (Training Camp) that is currently being carried out will continue both here (Indonesia) and abroad as well,” he concluded. (Ant/Z-1)
