New England Football Writers Names Division II/III All-New England Team
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- In a testament to his exceptional skills and determination, Bates College sophomore Ryan Lynskey stands among the distinguished four running backs selected for the 2024 Division II/III All-New England Team by the New England Football Writers Association. This latest honor follows closely on the heels of his first-team All-NESCAC recognition on November 19, underscoring his position as a standout athlete in the league.
Lynskey demonstrated remarkable prowess throughout the season, averaging a staggering 121.1 rushing yards per game, a feat that ranked him first in NESCAC and 12th in NCAA Division III. His extraordinary performance culminated in him accumulating 1,091 rushing yards, making him the pioneering Bates running back to surpass the 1,000-yard threshold since Sean Atkins achieved this milestone back in 2002.
Furthermore, Lynskey asserted his dominance in the NESCAC by securing the top spot in rushing touchdowns with an impressive 10 scores throughout the season. His historic 344-yard and three-touchdown game against Bowdoin on November 2 not only secured the NESCAC and Bates record but also resulted in him being feted as the NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week and a coveted spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week, alongside the esteemed Gold Helmet Award from the New England Football Writers.
A telling testament to his singular talent is that even if his remarkable 344-yard performance against Bowdoin were to be excluded, he would still have emerged as the NESCAC's leading rusher for the season. As the first Bates College player to be named to the All-New England team since Mark Upton achieved this honor in 2015, Lynskey's accomplishments will be celebrated at the forthcoming New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet.
