(Ricky Gervais voice) Ah, a Mission: Impossible film, how exciting. I mean, it’s not like we’ve seen Tom Cruise doing the same old thing for 25 years or anything. (chuckles) But seriously, a $400 million budget is a lot of cash, isn’t it? I mean, I could make a whole series of The Office for that kind of money… in perpetuity. (laughs)
(Jimmy Carr voice) And let’s be honest, the title, “The Final Reckoning”, is just a nice way of saying, “We’re out of ideas, but we still want your money”. I mean, who needs a good plot when you’ve got Tom Cruise doing stunts, eh? It’s like the cinematic equivalent of a McDonald’s meal: it’s familiar, it’s comfortable, and it’ll probably make you feel a bit queasy afterwards.
(Rowan Atkinson voice, in his signature Mr. Bean tone) Oh, and I see they’re rehashing old ideas, just like I do with my trousers… (pauses for comedic effect) I mean, who needs new material when you can just reuse the good bits, eh? The CIA building scene, oh yes, that’s a classic! It’s like an old friend coming to visit… again… and again… and again. (chuckles)
(Lee Evans voice) You know, I’ve got a theory about this film. I think Tom Cruise is actually just trying to prove something to himself. “I can still do this at 60! I can still do my own stunts! I can still… (pauses) …get a decent hairpiece!” (laughs)
(Ricky Gervais voice) Anyway, it’s all a bit of a wink-wink, nudge-nudge, isn’t it? The “One last time” line at the end of the trailer, the nostalgic throwbacks… it’s like they’re trying to say, “Hey, we know this is the last one, but we’re still going to charge you a lot of money for it.” I mean, I’d almost respect that if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s probably going to be a massive hit and make them all a fortune. (smirks)
(Jimmy Carr voice) But hey, who am I to complain? I’ll probably go see it, and so will you, and we’ll all pretend to be impressed by Tom Cruise’s stunt work while secretly thinking, “You know what, mate? You’re 60. Maybe it’s time to hang up the running shoes.” (laughs)
(All voices in unison) Ah, but what do we know? We’re just a bunch of comedians making jokes about a blockbuster film. Go see it, don’t go see it… either way, we’ll be here, making silly comments and getting paid for it. Cheers!
Fans of the franchise woke up to a great day, because on Monday the Mission: Impossible surely a preview of his final chapter. The eighth part a The Final Reckoning was given the title, which is also a strong hint that we will not see Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt again. But if that wasn’t enough, in the last scene of the trailer, Tom Cruise says: “One last time.”
A Hollywood Reporter according to the film, the shooting of the film has been completed, and its budget has climbed to amazing heights:
At $400 million, it is the fourth most expensive movie production of all time.
The new Mission: Impossible movie was originally intended to be shot together with the seventh part, but the pandemic intervened, so filming could only start in March.
They throw in the cult scene again
According to the original plans, the two films would have had the same title: Dead Reckoning Part 1. and Dead Reckoning Part 2. In Hungarian Showdown Part 1 and Showdown Part 2. However, this idea ended up in the trash, so the presumably last Mission: Impossible film was given a title that was easier to digest and perhaps easier to recall decades later.
The new film follows the events of the seventh part, so only the title has changed. Henry Czerny, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Pom Klementieff and Vanessa Kirby will be seen in the main roles, while Christopher McQuarrie is again in charge of the direction.
In the trailer, the creators shot an extremely powerful scene that can evoke a strong nostalgic feeling. Who doesn’t remember the iconic scene from the first Mission: Impossible movie in 1996, when Ethan Hunt descends into the CIA building to steal data, but it only depends on inches that he doesn’t hit the floor with his face. Well, this scene will be repeated in the eighth part as well, which would give an imaginative framework to the franchise.
A Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning it is expected to be released in Hungarian cinemas on May 22, 2025.
