How has the Higher Education Fund for Siderenses impacted students’ ability to pursue higher education and contribute to their communities?
**Interview with Tomas Ruiz Delgado on the Higher Education Fund for Siderenses**
*Interviewer*: Welcome, Tomas! It’s great to have you here to discuss the impact of the Higher Education Fund for Siderenses, especially as it celebrates 11 years of supporting students like yourself. Can you share a bit about your experience with the fund?
*Tomas Ruiz Delgado*: Thank you for having me! The Higher Education Fund has been a game-changer for many students in Sider, including myself. I received a scholarship to study Veterinary Medicine, which has always been my passion, particularly in caring for large animal species. Without this fund, I wouldn’t have been able to manage the university costs while helping my parents financially.
*Interviewer*: That’s wonderful to hear! The fund provides forgivable credits that require social hours in return, right? How do you feel about that arrangement?
*Tomas Ruiz Delgado*: Yes, the forgivable credits system is quite unique. It allows us to finance our education while also giving back to the community. I believe it helps foster a sense of responsibility among students. It’s not just about receiving help; it’s about contributing our time and skills to improve our municipality as well.
*Interviewer*: The application process seems rigorous. What were some of the requirements you had to meet to qualify for the scholarship?
*Tomas Ruiz Delgado*: Definitely! Candidates must be Colombian and have been residents of La Estrella for at least five years. There’s also a need to have completed high school and passed the Saber 11 tests, along with maintaining a family income below a certain threshold. The documentation can be quite a bit to gather, but it ensures that the fund is supporting those who genuinely need it.
*Interviewer*: Speaking of documentation, what specific documents did you have to submit during your application?
*Tomas Ruiz Delgado*: I had to provide copies of my identity document, a recent utility bill, a declaration proving my residency, Saber 11 test results, and my admission certificate from a recognized higher education institution. It’s a thorough process, but it ensures transparency and fairness, which I appreciate.
*Interviewer*: With the public draw approaching on December 17, what advice would you give to prospective applicants?
*Tomas Ruiz Delgado*: Prepare your documents early and ensure they meet all the requirements. It’s important to read through the guidelines carefully. Also, I’d encourage everyone to embrace the social hours aspect. It’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with the community and grow as individuals. Good luck to everyone applying!
*Interviewer*: Thank you, Tomas, for sharing your insights and experiences. It’s inspiring to see how the Higher Education Fund for Siderenses continues to change lives positively.
*Tomas Ruiz Delgado*: Thank you! I’m grateful to be part of this initiative and hope more students benefit from it in the future.
