Jakarta –
PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) is building a new car assembly factory in Purwakarta, West Java. The plan is for this new factory to be operational starting next year.
“God willing, there will be six more brands,” said PT HIM Deputy Chief Commissioner Jongkie Sugiarto when met at ICE BSD, Tangerang, recently.
Jongkie has not revealed what brands will be in the new Handal factory. However, it is suspected that these brands are Zeeker, Xpeng and Geely.

“Various things, there’s ICE, electricity. Anyway, it’s busy. We’ll see next year’s GIIAS,” he said.
“Now with GIIAS, you see, there are Aletra, Zeekr. Ford is back. It’s good that it’s busy,” added Jongkie.
Jongkie said the construction status of the new factory would be completed in December 2024 for the painting stage. Meanwhile, the welding process to painting, in other words the full process, will be completed in July 2025.
“The factory will operate for those using painted bodies, so the bodies will have been painted from there, that will be around February-March next year,” explained Jongkie.
“Starting from July you can weld there, paint there,” he added.
Handal already has a factory located in Pondok Ungu, Bekasi. The factory is filled with three brands at once, namely Chery, Neta and Jetour.
For the record, Handal initially assembled cars made by Hyundai. However, since four years ago, they have become a general assembler or independent factory that handles the production of a number of cars from China.
The Reliable Factory in Purwakarta is much larger than in Bekasi. In fact, its production capacity is claimed to be three times greater. The factory was built in the Integrated Industrial Park or IIP Purwakarta area.
“The factory in Purwakarta is three times bigger than the one here. The land is 38 hectares, whereas the one here is only 12 hectares. Then the capacity, in Bekasi is 30 thousand units per year, then there it could be up to 90 thousand units per year,” he said President Director of PT HIM, Denny Siregar in Bekasi, West Java, last Friday (31/5).

Jakarta’s New Automotive Ambition: Factories, Brands, and a Dash of Humour
Sit tight, folks! Jakarta is gearing up to shake up the automotive industry, and I’m not talking about those tiny little scooters you see zipping around like they’re in a James Bond movie. PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) has set its sights on Purwakarta, West Java, to build a brand new car assembly factory that’s expected to rev its engine by next year. Yes, you heard right—next year! No pressure, team!
So, what’s on the docket? “God willing, there will be six more brands,” said PT HIM Deputy Chief Commissioner Jongkie Sugiarto, just after emerging from a meeting in which I can only assume he was sipping something contemplative. But of course, he’s played it coy and hasn’t spilled the beans on which brands those will be. Rumors are swirling around names like Zeeker, Xpeng, and Geely. If you’re asking yourself, “Who on earth are they?” don’t worry; just nod along like you’ve heard of them before.
They’re a bit awkward—kind of like that friend who insists on showing you their slides from their trip to Greenland. They mean well!
“With GIIAS coming up,” Jongkie continues, probably cautiously eyeing the future, “there are Aletra, Zeekr. Ford is back. It’s good that it’s busy.” Ah yes, busyness—the classic remedy for an uncertain future! Nothing says “all is well” like a stress-induced whirlwind of activity.
It seems they’ve got a bustling schedule ahead: the painting stage is set for completion in December 2024, with the full assembly process expected to wrap up by July 2025. I can hear the admin assistants sharpening their pencils to manage that timeline already!
Before you get too excited, in Jongkie’s words, “The factory will operate for those using painted bodies.” So, it turns out they’re not making those strange Japanese-spec candy-coloured cars that we always wished we had—sorry to burst your bubble, folks!
The current factory in Bekasi might seem quaint now with its three brands: Chery, Neta, and Jetour. However, the new purwakarta powerhouse will be three times its size. We’re talking 38 hectares versus a wee 12 hectares in Bekasi. If this factory were a toddler, it’d be the one raiding the cookie jar and then some! Denny Siregar, the President Director, claims their production capacity could hit a whopping 90,000 units per year. Now that’s a number that makes you wonder if we should all be prepared for a road full of brand new cars or a whole lot of confused pedestrians!
The phrase “going big or going home” usually comes to mind in moments like this, but we know Jakarta’s not built on half-measures… or perhaps just half-baked plans? It’s a fact that, once operational, this new facility is set to give a powerful boost to the local car assembly line, and possibly create a whole new range of automotive-related dad jokes to grace our roads.
Jakarta –
PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) has embarked on an ambitious project to establish a new car assembly factory in Purwakarta, West Java, with plans for it to commence operations as early as next year.
“God willing, there will be six more brands,” expressed PT HIM Deputy Chief Commissioner Jongkie Sugiarto during a recent event at ICE BSD, Tangerang, indicating growing production capabilities and market expansion.
Although Jongkie has not disclosed specific details about the forthcoming brands set to be manufactured at the new Handal factory, speculation suggests that Zeeker, Xpeng, and Geely could be among them, highlighting a trend toward Chinese automotive brands entering the Indonesian market.
“Now with GIIAS, you see, there are Aletra, Zeekr. Ford is back. It’s good that it’s busy,” added Jongkie, showcasing the dynamic automotive landscape in Indonesia, especially with the upcoming Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).
Jongkie revealed that the new factory’s construction is on track for completion by December 2024 for the painting stage, indicating a structured timeline for its development. Meanwhile, the full assembly process, from welding to painting, is slated for completion by July 2025, ensuring a phased approach to production readiness.
“The factory will operate for those using painted bodies, so the bodies will have been painted from there, that will be around February-March next year,” explained Jongkie, providing insight into the operational strategy of the new facility.
Handal already operates a factory in Pondok Ungu, Bekasi, which currently assembles vehicles for three brands: Chery, Neta, and Jetour. This diverse portfolio reflects Handal’s adaptability in the automotive sector.
Initially, Handal focused on assembling cars for Hyundai; however, a strategic pivot four years ago transformed them into a general assembler handling various models from Chinese manufacturers.
In terms of scale, the new factory in Purwakarta is significantly larger than the Bekasi operation. It is being constructed in the Integrated Industrial Park (IIP) Purwakarta area, which is poised for industrial growth.
“The factory in Purwakarta is three times bigger than the one here. The land is 38 hectares, whereas the one here is only 12 hectares. Then the capacity, in Bekasi is 30 thousand units per year, then there it could be up to 90 thousand units per year,” stated Denny Siregar, President Director of PT HIM, further emphasizing the ambitious scale of the Purwakarta facility.
