¡De la literatura al escenario!
Este festival, que se celebrará del 25 de noviembre al 1 de diciembre de 2024, no solo busca entretener, sino también conectar la literatura con el teatro. ¿Quién dice que leer es aburrido? Este es un claro intento de demostrar que un buen libro puede ser tan emocionante como un thriller de acción… ¡solo que con menos explosiones y más diálogos ingeniosos! ¿Le suena “Romeo y Julieta”? ¡Ah, el dulce amor… y la trágica muerte! ¿Acaso no se merecen un aplauso?
Un espectáculo inclusivo hasta los huesos
El festival no solo presentará 14 actuaciones en espacios comunitarios como hospitales y escuelas, sino que también habrá talleres y discusiones. ¡Porque claro, después de ver una obra, todos quieren sentarse y hablar de los problemas de la humanidad! Y quién no entiende el arte, ¿verdad? El festival quiere llegar a zonas vulnerables, porque el verdadero arte debe sentirse, saborearse y, a veces, hacerse a un lado para evitar volcarse con el drama. ¡Pero aquí el teatro viene a cambiarlo todo!

Maricarmen Rodríguez abrirá el festival con su famosa interpretación “Mea culpa.” ¡Y ya que hablamos de confesiones, cómo no recordar a Diómedes Mieses! El teatro Dalixdes le rendirá homenaje con “La mujer”. ¡Que no se diga que la cultura no vive de los recuerdos!

Estos héroes locales son esenciales para el montaje de esto y, sinceramente, ¡merecen un aplauso! Siempre que estén ocupados organizando el evento, parece que el drama en estas comunidades se vuelve tan limitado como la disponibilidad de electricidad en la montaña. ¡Vaya, qué complicación para el teatro de luz natural!

EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTO DOMINGO.- The Anacaona Teatro Foundation has officially announced that the highly anticipated XIII Parallel Theater Festival (FTP) will take place from November 25 to December 1, 2024, spotlighting the intricate relationship between literature and the theatrical arts.
This festival aims to enrich vulnerable communities by integrating performing arts into their lives and will feature a total of 14 diverse performances, workshops, discussions, and a major conference. These events will be hosted in accessible community venues such as high schools, hospitals, and parks, strategically placed to enhance cultural accessibility in underprivileged areas.
The XIII Festival will consist entirely of in-person programming conducted in various alternative spaces that cater to each community’s unique needs. Seven professional theater groups have been invited to showcase an array of theatrical works spanning multiple genres and styles, ensuring that there is something for everyone—ranging from family-friendly performances to productions designed for adult audiences.

Lucina Edith Jiménez Lugo, the executive director of the Anacaona Teatro Foundation and the festival’s general coordinator, expressed excitement for this thirteenth edition, stating, “We are dedicating this year’s festival to literature. We aspire to celebrate and recognize the vital connection between literature and theater, which encompasses everything from dramaturgy to the adaptation of numerous literary genres into dynamic stage performances.”
The festival seeks to underscore the significance of theatrical art closely interwoven with literature, from which innumerable theatrical productions have originated—even if their literary foundations extend beyond traditional theatrical texts, yielding exciting results through textual crosses, collages, adaptations, and original creations that stem from the theatrical dramaturgical process.
Participating theater groups
Several acclaimed theater groups and talented individuals will be participating in this year’s festival, including dancer and performer Maricarmen Rodríguez, the Dalixdes theater group, Teatro Alternativo led by Lorena Oliva, the 37 x las Tablas Association hailing from Santiago de Los Caballeros, Fundación Teatro Trípode, Teatro Tablitas, and Anthony Casado, alongside the organizing host collective, Anacaona Teatro.
Opening of the Festival
The Festival (FTP) is set to kick off with an inaugural event on Monday, November 25 at 8:00 pm, coinciding with the observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (DIEVCM). The opening ceremony will feature the stunning performance of “Mea culpa” by the acclaimed dancer Maricarmen Rodríguez, and a posthumous tribute to Diómedes Mieses, a revered champion of popular theater who has participated actively in previous festival editions. Notably, attendees can look forward to 14 theatrical performances, including a discussion titled “Signs of Violence,” led by Sonia Perozo, scheduled for Tuesday, November 26 at 6:00 pm at the Benito Juárez Modality in Arts Educational Center located in the Cristo Rey sector. Additionally, on Saturday, November 30, a workshop titled “Express Dramaturgy” hosted by Ingrid Luciano will occur at 10:00 am in La Gruta, followed by a must-attend conference at 6:00 pm exploring “From the Book to the Tables,” featuring insights from Reynaldo Disla, Ylonka Nacidit-Perdomo, Manuel Chapuseaux, and Natalio Grueso.
On Monday, November 25 at 10:00 am, the Festival will commence with the play “The Odyssey,” presented by Teatro Alternativo, led by Argentine actress and director Lorena Oliva, held at the dining hall of Don Pedro Mir High School in the La Ureña sector, conveniently located near the Las Américas highway in Santo Domingo Este. The festival will also feature the performance “Mea culpa” during the opening event on the same day, alongside “La mujer,” performed by Teatro Dalixdes at the host venue of La Gruta.
On Tuesday, November 26 at 4:00 pm, audiences can enjoy the presentation of “Por el mar de las Antillas” by Anacaona Teatro at the San Martín de Porres School in the Guachupita sector. This will be followed at 6:00 pm by “La mujer” staged by Teatro Dalixdes at the multipurpose room within the Modality in Arts Benito Juárez educational center, located in the Cristo Rey sector.

On Friday, November 29, the festival will venture to San Cristóbal for a 10:00 am presentation of “Café opera… clown code” at the dining hall of Liceo Altagracia Lucas de García in the Moscow neighborhood—a recognized area struggling with high violence rates. Later, at 7:00 pm, the festival will feature the presentation of “Cuatro” at the community center in the impoverished rural area of Palamara along the Duarte highway, followed by “The Tales of Rita and Lolita” at 8:00 pm at the Amparo Association premises in the 30 de Mayo sector.
On Saturday, November 30 at 7:00 pm, festival-goers can enjoy a performance of “Regalo” by Anthony Casado, paired with an oral narration by Valentín Amaro at the Atala urbanization park, leading up to the festival’s grand closing ceremony. The XIII Parallel Theater Festival (FTP) will conclude on Sunday, December 1, at 7:00 pm with “The Odyssey” showcased by Teatro Alternativo Lorena Oliva at the Orlando Martínez Club in the Matahambre sector.
