Recently, the social network X (previously known as Twitter) has a really cool new function.
Now, users of the iPhone app can use gestures to facilitate navigation through the timeline — swiping left or right on a post.
Check out, in the next paragraphs, how to use it!
It is now possible to interact with posts in X using gestures
To activate gestures, tap your photo (in the top left corner) and scroll to Settings and support » Settings and privacy.
Then, select “Timeline”, “Interaction with posts” and activate the option “Enable swipe gestures for posts”. By doing this, you will be able to choose which action will be performed when you swipe left or right.
OX provides the following options:
- Enjoy
- Responder
- Refuel
- To share
- Saved Items
- I’m not interested
- None

**Editor:** Welcome, Sarah! Thanks for joining us today to discuss the exciting new gesture feature in the X app. Can you explain how this feature enhances user experience?
**Sarah:** Thank you for having me! The new gesture navigation allows iPhone users to swipe left or right on posts, making it much easier and more intuitive to scroll through their feed. This is a significant upgrade as it mimics natural hand movements, leading to a smoother interaction with content on the platform.
**Editor:** That sounds incredibly user-friendly! How can users enable these gestures in the app?
**Sarah:** It’s quite simple! Users just need to tap on their profile photo in the top-left corner, go to “Settings and support,” then to “Settings and privacy.” From there, they can select “Timeline” and find the option for “Interaction with posts” to activate gestures. **Editor:** It seems like a straightforward process! How do you think this feature compares to other social media platforms?
**Sarah:** Many platforms have integrated swipe features, especially in photo and video contexts. However, X’s implementation for general post navigation sets it apart by making the entire news feed interaction more fluid. It encourages users to engage more deeply with content without interrupting their flow, enhancing the overall experience.
**Editor:** Absolutely! What potential challenges do you foresee with this new functionality?
**Sarah:** One challenge could be that some users might inadvertently swipe and navigate away from posts they intended to engage with. There might be a learning curve for those who aren’t accustomed to gesture-based controls. Additionally, accessibility needs to be considered to ensure all users, including those with disabilities, can efficiently interact with the app.
**Editor:** That’s a key point. Lastly, do you believe that this update signals a broader trend in social media regarding user interaction?
**Sarah:** Definitely! This gesture feature exemplifies how platforms are evolving to prioritize user experience. As technology advances, we can expect more interactive and user-friendly features that tailor the experience to individual preferences. This aligns with the growing demand for more engaging and less cluttered interfaces in social media.
**Editor:** Thank you, Sarah! Your insights into the new gesture feature in the X app are invaluable. We look forward to seeing how users adapt to these changes.
**Sarah:** Thanks for having me! Excited to see how this unfolds.
