The steps and decisions made by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are very important in stopping Israel’s aggression against Palestine and Lebanon which is still ongoing, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, Monday (11/11).
“Erdogan underlined the importance of the decisions and actions that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will take to stop Israeli aggression,” said Turkey’s Communications Directorate in X after a meeting between President Erdogan and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman on the sidelines of the summit in the capital Riyadh.
Erdogan, who is in Riyadh to attend the Extraordinary Summit of the OIC and Arab League, discussed a number of regional and international issues with the crown prince. The two also discussed bilateral relations.
“Stressing the importance of unity and solidarity among Muslim countries to stop Israel’s attacks on Palestine and Lebanon, President Erdogan stated that Turkey has started an arms embargo initiative against Israel under the UN to end Israeli aggression and efforts to gain greater support will continue carried out,” said the directorate. What are some of the major global challenges that President Erdoğan believes the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) can effectively address?
Based on the topic of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasizing the role of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in addressing pressing global issues, I have created a short fictional interview with a guest expert on international relations.

**Interview with Dr. Amina Sadık, International Relations Expert**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Dr. Sadık. Recently, President Erdoğan spoke about the critical role of the OIC in addressing major global challenges. Can you elaborate on what these challenges are?
**Dr. Sadık:** Absolutely, and thank you for having me. Erdoğan’s remarks highlight the OIC’s potential in mediating conflicts, promoting peace, and advocating for human rights, especially in crisis regions like the Middle East. The OIC can serve as a platform for Muslim-majority countries to unite and take collective action against challenges such as political instability, humanitarian crises, and discrimination against Muslims worldwide.
**Interviewer:** In what specific ways can the OIC differentiate itself from other international organizations?
**Dr. Sadık:** One of the OIC’s unique strengths is its ability to mobilize action driven by a shared cultural and religious identity. Unlike the United Nations, which is often bogged down by political complexities, the OIC can foster a sense of solidarity among its member states. For example, it can coordinate humanitarian assistance in war-torn areas or provide diplomatic support to nations facing external pressures.
**Interviewer:** Erdoğan has often emphasized unity among Muslim nations. Can unity within the OIC truly translate into effective action?
**Dr. Sadık:** This is indeed a challenge. While the vision of unity is commendable, the political realities of differing national interests often hinder decisive action. However, with strong leadership and commitment from member states, the OIC can establish effective coalitions, especially on pressing issues like Palestine and the Rohingya crisis, where there is widespread consensus.
**Interviewer:** What do you think the international community can learn from the OIC’s approach under Erdoğan’s leadership?
**Dr. Sadık:** The OIC’s emphasis on dialog and peaceful resolution can serve as an important lesson for the international community. In a polarized world, fostering understanding through communication and collaboration is vital. Erdoğan’s push for a more active role underscores that regional organizations can lead initiatives where bigger powers may hesitate.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Dr. Sadık, for your insights. It seems there are both opportunities and challenges ahead for the OIC under Erdoğan’s guidance.
**Dr. Sadık:** Exactly. It will be interesting to see how this plays out on the global stage, especially amidst rising geopolitical tensions. Thank you for having me.
