Cardenales de Lara (13-15) completed the first victory of the seventh week of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) against Tiburones de La Guaira (15-17), by beating them 5-2 at the Jorge Luis García Carneiro Stadium in Macuto, La Guaira state, reported David Villarroel, press chief of Los Pájaros Rojos.
With this victory, the feathered team equals fifth place in the standings with the Litoralenses. The victory was awarded to right-hander Brian Mckenna (1-0), while the setback went to Anthony Castro (1-2) and the save went to Edwin Escobar (2).
The match was started by right-hander Robert Colina, who worked for 4.2 solid innings, in which he got four hits, scored two earned runs, walked one and fanned five rivals, leaving without a decision.
Larense relief
Colina’s work was relieved by Jesús Valles (1.1 IP, 0 CL, 0 H), Luis Rico (0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 CL), Brian McKenna (1.1 IP, 1 BB, 1 SO, 0 CL) and Edwin Escobar (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 CL, 2 BB, 1 SO). The sharks only managed to connect five uncatchables before the twilight arms.
The running movement for the Larenses began in the sixth inning, when Rangel Ravelo equalized the actions with a superb two-run home run. Then, in the eighth inning, another hit by Ravelo would bring two more hits, due to an error by shortstop Gabriel Arias.
In the ninth inning, Hendrik Clementina hit a solo home run, his third of the season, and set the final numbers. The outstanding numbers were for Rangel Ravelo (4-2, 1 HR, 2 CA), Luisángel Acuña (3-2, 1 BB) and Hendrik Clementina (2-1, 1 HR, 1 CI, 1 BB).
