Babler error causes Toni Lang and the Styrian SPÖ to continue to fall

Vienna (OTS) –

Once again the SPÖ suffered a devastating election defeat. Rudi Fußi is not surprised on this bitter Sunday for the Social Democrats.

“Toni Lang and the Styrian friends ran well and we should thank them for that. But you can’t run uphill against a disastrous national trend. This continues a negative series: the ÖVP is dismantling it, the SPÖ doesn’t even benefit from it and ends up at a historic low.

Andreas Babler has broken all his promises and only pursues one goal: it must say Vice Chancellor on the business card. To do this, he sacrifices everything he once promised and only further damages the SPÖ’s battered credibility. The crazy idea of a 32-hour week would finally drive our economy to the wall. We finally have to save on expenses; we don’t need an additional burden, but relief.

The fact is: people don’t want someone who understands Stalin at the top of the SPÖ and are therefore continuing to run away from us in droves. You have to imagine what would happen in Vienna’s journalist bubble if Herbert Kickl had co-written a book that praised Adolf Hitler. Andreas Babler did nothing else: He contributed to a book that focuses on the positive sides of the mass murderer and criminal Josef Stalin. What’s more, Babler was untruthful about his hunting escapades, he called for crosses to be burned in schools and someone like that should be worthy of Bruno Kreisky’s heir?

The federal party executive committee is responsible and must finally put an end to this embarrassing spectacle and clear the way for a renewal of the party. If this change of course does not take place, the SPÖ will disappear into absolute insignificance. I will try to prevent this and once again demand: decisive business-friendly policies, restrictive asylum and security policies, tax cuts for workers and companies, statutory minimum wage, tough anti-corruption policies and a radical streamlining of the bureaucracy and our administrative structures. This is the New Path this party must take if it wants to survive. This path can only be taken without dilettantes and those who understand Stalin. Only then can the party win elections again.”

How does Rudi Fußi suggest the⁢ SPÖ can rebuild trust with its electorate after ‍the recent losses?

**Interview with Political Analyst⁢ Rudi Fußi on the SPÖ’s Election ‌Defeat**

**Date: November 24, 2024**

**Location: Vienna**

**Interviewer:** Good afternoon,⁣ Rudi. Thank you for joining ‍us today to discuss the recent election results for the Social Democratic Party⁢ of Austria (SPÖ).

**Rudi Fußi:** Thank you⁣ for having me. It’s a‌ difficult ‍time ⁣for⁢ the SPÖ,⁢ and⁢ I’m here⁣ to share some insights.

**Interviewer:** The ⁢SPÖ suffered a significant defeat in the recent elections. Were you surprised by the outcome?

**Rudi Fußi:** Not at ⁤all. This result was, unfortunately, expected. We’ve‍ seen a consistent downward trend‌ for the SPÖ,‍ and this election was just ⁢another chapter in that ongoing narrative.

**Interviewer:**⁢ You mentioned a “disastrous national trend” in ⁤your⁣ remarks. Can you elaborate on what you mean ‌by this?

**Rudi Fußi:** Absolutely. The ⁣ÖVP is currently dominating the political landscape,⁤ and the SPÖ has failed to capitalize on any⁤ opportunities to gain from this. Instead of gaining momentum, they have dropped to historic lows. It’s a frustrating ‍situation for party supporters.

**Interviewer:** It seems there were some positive performances, particularly from Toni Lang and his Styrian allies. How significant is this⁣ in‍ the grand ⁢scheme of things?

**Rudi Fußi:** ⁣While I commend⁢ Toni Lang and ‌the Styrian team for their efforts, it’s important to⁣ recognize⁤ that their successes cannot overshadow the broader failures of the SPÖ. Running well in ⁢one⁢ region‌ is commendable, ⁢but it’s not enough to counteract the party’s overall decline.

**Interviewer:** You criticized Andreas Babler’s leadership, ‍suggesting ⁣he⁣ has broken promises. What specific commitments do you believe he has compromised?

**Rudi Fußi:** Babler came ‌into ⁣office with a platform that resonated with many,‍ focusing on ⁣issues like social equity and progressive policies. However, it seems his singular goal has shifted to securing the Vice Chancellorship, ‍leading him to‍ sacrifice those initial ideals. This betrayal has only further alienated‌ party members and supporters.

**Interviewer:** Given these challenges, what do you think the SPÖ needs to do to recover in the future?

**Rudi Fußi:** The SPÖ needs to ⁣reassess‌ its leadership and reconnect with its core principles. They must ‌rebuild trust with ‌their base and clearly ⁣communicate a vision that aligns with the public’s needs. It’s crucial for ⁢them to show that they can be a credible alternative to ⁣the ÖVP.

**Interviewer:** Thank you for your insights,⁢ Rudi. It seems the road ahead ⁢for the ‌SPÖ will be quite challenging.

**Rudi Fußi:**‍ Yes, ‍and they will need to work diligently and honestly to regain the trust of the‌ electorate. Thank you for having me.

**Interviewer:** Thank you‍ once again for your⁤ time. It will be interesting to see ⁣how the SPÖ navigates these troubled waters in the coming months.
