The Stella Prizes for theater for young audiences went to Vienna and Weiz, the 18th award ceremony of which was celebrated on Friday evening in the Neue Bühne Villach. “Hands”, a performance for two performers and a musician by theater.nuu and WUK (Vienna), was recognized as “Outstanding Production for Children” and the piece “Forgetting” by Theaterfabrik Weiz (Styria) was recognized as “Outstanding Production for Young People”. .
In the “Outstanding Actor” category, the Stella Prize went to Maartje Pasman, Futurelove Sibanda and Joseph Tebandeke in “Kingx&Qweens” by Unusual Beings, Dance Revolution East Africa, Jungle Wien (Vienna). Marc Bruckner and ensemble were honored for “Outstanding Music” for the music in “Super Zero Baby” at the Musiktheater an der Wien. Till Krappmann and Michael Zweimüller provided “outstanding equipment” for “Ancestors’ Gift” by the ATASH contemporary dance company in the Jungle Vienna. The special award from the board of ASSITEJ Austria was awarded to Nadja Brachvogel & Martin Brachvogel (Follow the Rabbit).
The Stella is the first Austria-wide prize for outstanding achievements in the performing arts for young audiences and has been awarded since 2007. For this year’s award ceremony, the four-person jury viewed a total of 126 productions from all over Austria in 2023. The resulting 24 nominations included theaters, groups, festivals and individuals from Carinthia, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Vienna. There were also three international collaborations with Uganda, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
