**Interview with Dr. Amina Sheikh, Middle East Affairs Expert**
**Interviewer**: Thank you for joining us today, Dr. Sheikh. Recently, President Erdoğan emphasized the crucial role of the OIC in addressing conflicts and promoting stability within Muslim countries. Why do you think the OIC holds such significance in current global affairs?
**Dr. Amina Sheikh**: Thank you for having me. The OIC plays a vital role as it represents the collective voice of the Muslim world. In today’s complex geopolitical landscape, where conflicts can often lead to humanitarian crises, the OIC can serve as a platform for dialog and coordination among member states. President Erdoğan’s remarks highlight that collaboration among Muslim nations is essential for tackling issues like conflict resolution and economic development.
**Interviewer**: That’s an interesting perspective. Given recent tensions in various regions, what specific actions do you think the OIC could take to fulfill this role?
**Dr. Amina Sheikh**: The OIC can take several actions, such as facilitating peace talks in areas of conflict, providing humanitarian aid to affected regions, and encouraging member states to adhere to international laws regarding human rights. Additionally, strengthening economic ties between member countries can help foster stability and resilience against extremism, which is often rooted in poverty and despair.
**Interviewer**: Erdoğan also mentioned the need for unity among Muslim nations. How can the OIC enhance this unity in practice?
**Dr. Amina Sheikh**: Enhancing unity requires a multifaceted approach. First, the OIC must promote cultural exchange and understanding among member states, which can help reduce friction. Second, it should focus on joint initiatives that address common challenges, such as climate change or public health crises. Lastly, robust diplomatic efforts are essential; member countries need to prioritize collective interests over individual national agendas.
**Interviewer**: Thank you, Dr. Sheikh. Before we wrap up, any final thoughts on the future of the OIC under current global conditions?
**Dr. Amina Sheikh**: The future of the OIC is promising but will depend heavily on its ability to adapt to evolving challenges. Given the rising tides of nationalism and division, reinforcing the OIC’s role as a mediator in conflicts and a promoter of dialog will be key. It must also find innovative ways to engage with younger generations who are increasingly influential in shaping the region’s future.
**Interviewer**: Thank you for your insights, Dr. Sheikh. It’s been a pleasure discussing the significant role of the OIC today.
