– On Friday, the Tulane Green Wave proudly unveiled its highly anticipated 2024-25 spring women’s tennis schedule, drawing excitement from players and fans alike.
The season kicks off at the impressive City Park Tennis Center, where the team will take on Southern at 1 p.m. on January 25, followed by a match against UNO at 2 p.m. on January 27. These home matches promise to set an enthusiastic tone for the semester as fans rally behind their team.
In addition to the opening matches, fans can look forward to several thrilling home encounters throughout the spring, including contests against South Alabama on February 7 at 2 p.m., Louisiana on February 11 at 2 p.m., and a high-stakes showdown with LSU on February 13 at 2 p.m. Other notable matches feature Troy on February 16 at 1 p.m., Princeton at 2 p.m. on March 13, and Wichita State at 12 p.m. on March 16, followed by Nicholls on March 19 at 2 p.m. Rounding out the home slate are matches against Memphis (March 28, 3 p.m.), Louisiana Tech (March 30, 12 p.m.), Florida Atlantic (April 4, 2 p.m.), and Tulsa (April 6, 12 p.m.). The season will culminate in a doubleheader finale against Grambling, with the time to be announced.
Notably, LSU finished the previous season ranked 28th nationally, showcasing an impressive roster, while Princeton ranked 36th, Memphis was at 51st, and Florida Atlantic captured the 75th spot. These matchups will provide the Green Wave with critical competition and opportunities to enhance their national standing.
The Green Wave will also venture on the road, facing formidable opponents such as Mississippi State on January 31 and Alabama on February 1. The team will further compete against South Florida on February 22, Charlotte on March 2, and North Texas on March 23—each match representing a chance to test their mettle against tough rivals. The Crimson Tide concluded the 2024 season at 33rd in the ITA team rankings, while South Florida rounded out the season at 64th, promising engaging contests for the Green Wave.
In addition to their road schedule, the Green Wave will battle at neutral sites on February 23 against UTSA in South Florida, March 1 versus Liberty in Charlotte, and on March 22 against UAB at North Texas, all adding variety to their competitive landscape.
The prestigious AAC Championships are set to unfold from April 14-20 in Memphis, culminating with the NCAA Team Championships commencing the first week of May, providing athletes with a chance to shine on a larger stage.

How does Coach Houghton plan to foster team cohesion and mental toughness during challenging away matches?

**Editor:** Hello, Coach Houghton! Thank you for joining us today. The Tulane Green Wave recently unveiled its 2024-25 spring women’s tennis schedule. Can you share what excites you most about this season?
**Coach Houghton:** Thank you for having me! I’m really excited for the opening matches at City Park Tennis Center. Starting the season at home is always a fantastic way to build momentum, and we have some strong opponents lined up. The energy from our fans is going to be crucial as we take on teams like LSU and Princeton, who both had impressive seasons last year.
**Editor:** Absolutely! You mentioned LSU and Princeton. How important are these matchups for your team in terms of building their national standing?
**Coach Houghton:** Those matches are vital. Facing ranked opponents helps us gauge where we stand against the best in the country and pushes our players to elevate their game. It’s a great opportunity for us to compete at a high level, which is vital for our growth as a program.
**Editor:** Your team will also be hitting the road to face formidable opponents like Mississippi State and Alabama. How do you prepare for such challenging matches?
**Coach Houghton:** Preparation is key. We focus on our training, analyze our opponents, and work on mental toughness. Traveling can be tough, but we make sure our players are ready to face the challenge head-on, maintaining our focus on our goals for the season.
**Editor:** The AAC Championships and NCAA Championships are coming up. What are your aspirations for the team during these tournaments?
**Coach Houghton:** Our goal is to perform at our best during the AAC Championships, as that can greatly influence our chances of making it into the NCAA Championships. We want to qualify and make a strong showing. The focus is on teamwork, strategy, and executing our game plans.
