Navarra Television Awards: A Night of Glory and Giggles
Ah, the Navarra Television Awards – because nothing says “let’s have a good time” quite like a group of people in formal wear celebrating the greatness of social values, all while you sit there wondering, “Where’s the open bar?” But let’s not digress! Seriously, who knew celebrating brain injuries could be this fun? And don’t worry, I promise to keep the puns to a minimum. Spoiler alert: I lied!
The event kicked off at the stunning Baluarte Auditorium and Conference Center – packed to the rafters with spectators. You know it’s a big deal when people show up en masse to applaud social, youth, cultural, sports, business and exemplarily awkwardness. And let’s not forget the all-important public vote! More than 10,000 votes poured in, which should really make you reassess your own life choices. I mean, ten thousand people… voting for what? The best brain injury association? Makes “Who is the best Borat impersonator?” look like a buzzing party!
Our night’s angelic voice was none other than Cristina Ramos, the Canarian artist recently featured on talent shows that I’m convinced are just a way for people to get famous for crying on stage. She opened the gala with her powerful vocals and even closed it, creating the perfect “come, stay” sandwich – or should I say “a la carte” experience? With a dance group called Taupadak, no less. They clearly took that “dance like nobody’s watching” thing to heart, and it paid off!
Director Roberto Cámara stepped on stage to reel us back into the reality of the digital age. Suddenly, I felt old! He passionately presented the new NATV Play app, described as “the future already present.” Talk about launching into the 21st century! If only my parents could figure out how to download it! There’s now over 500 audiovisual treats available on various platforms, which is great, until you realize you still can’t find a decent Netflix show to binge. Dilemma!
As the evening rolled on, the awards commenced! The Social Values Award went to ADACEN, the Brain Injury Association. They received a standing ovation, which was presumably for all the hard work done by dedicated professionals – or maybe just for their tenacity in sticking together as a team! José Luis Herrera, the president, thanked voters while also managing to charm us with a reminder that it’s the 30th anniversary for the association. That, folks, is dedication – like a long-term relationship, but with more paperwork!
Then came the Young Values Award, awarded to two remarkable athletes in the realm of inclusive skating. I mean, “inclusive skating” sounds like something I awkwardly attempted on ice when I was ten. Iera Garbisu and Lola Bronte boldly accepted their accolades, saying they wanted to honor those with dreams to fulfill. A lovely sentiment, truly. It feels just as inspiring as my dream last night about owning a pet rock.
Then there was the Cultural Values Award, given to the ever-charming group ‘Puro Relajo’, who reminded everyone of the grassroots artists touring every corner of Navarra. They deserve all the applause, providing entertainment while saving us from those awkward conversations during social gatherings!
Hold onto your tissues, folks! Next came one of the most moving moments of the night—the Honor Award for Social Values. Families affected by ALS took the stage, proving that courage comes in waves, and they were met with an emotional ovation. Carlos Ardanaz delivered heartfelt comments highlighting the struggles surrounding this disease while acknowledging the invaluable work of the association ANELA. It was the sort of moment that makes you take a long, deep breath and ask, “Should this be on prime-time TV?”
And what’s an awards gala without sports? Enter Naroa Arrasate from the weightlifting scene, who clinched the Sports Values Award like a boss! The girl’s a powerhouse at just 21, and she did it in 64 kilos, which for those of you not familiar with weight classes is roughly equivalent to the weight of my procrastination! She’s breaking records and aiming for those European titles – dream big, weightlifting queen!
The comedy of the night was delivered excellently by monologist Aroa Berrozpe. She whipped out laughter after laughter, leaving us clutching our sides while we wondered, “Should we be laughing at all?” She served up current events with humor sharp enough to cut through the emotional haze of the night.
Finally, we reached the climax of the gala: the Business Values Awards went to El Caserío de Tafalla, a company that’s been around for 60 years. Their director, Ramón San Martín, sweetly shared how they’ve dedicated those years to giving people moments of pleasure through confectionery delights. Why can’t all companies explain themselves that way? I could totally get behind candy! 🍬
As the event reached its conclusion, Gallipiezo was declared the Exemplary Town for 2024. Mayor Roberto Hernández gave a moving speech, reflecting on the importance of community and remembering those who are no longer with us. Honestly, if everyone had as much passion as he did, we’d all be living in utopia!
The night wrapped up with a star-studded audience that included local politicians, culture enthusiasts, and just about everyone who wanted a night out on the town! It seems like Navarra isn’t just about tapas and siestas, but also about celebrating the individuals who make it shine. Bravo, Navarra Television! Here’s to the next nine years of voluntary suffering through awards ceremonies! 🍾

The ceremony then shifted its focus to Sports Values, where nominees included the women’s basketball team, Osés Construction Ardoi, and Olympic soccer player Aimar Oroz. Ultimately, however, the award went to Naroa Arrasate, a remarkable young weightlifter who has claimed the title of absolute Spanish champion in the 64-kilo category, a stunning accomplishment given she began her training just months prior. At only 21 years old, she continues to break records and aspires to compete at the European and world levels, dedicating her award to her first coach, Alfonso.
The gala maintained an engaging tone thanks to the humorous interjections of Aroa Berrozpe, whose comedic insights and perspectives on current events elicited laughter from both the live audience and viewers following the event on television and social media.
The winner of the Business Values Awards, El Caserío de Tafalla, received recognition for its six-decade legacy in crafting delectable treats.
