The question of the health insurance budget for 2025 will not be decided by the outgoing federal government, but by the Arizona coalition, still in gestation.
Resigning Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and trainer Bart De Wever have indicated that the discussion on the health insurance budget for 2025 will have to be decided by the parties of the Arizona coalition in formation, and not by the outgoing federal government .
An additional burden on the budget
“A growth standard of 2.5% in health care would increase the 2025 budget by 2 billion euros. It is up to the next government team to decide or not on such a measure, which would represent a significant commitment in the government negotiations.”
The issue of the Inami budget, i.e. health care insurance, had already been addressed in October by the federal government, but the liberal parties MR and Open VLD had opposed the growth standard of 2.5 % beyond indexation, although this agreement was previously concluded within the Vivaldi coalition. According to the liberal De Croo, a government in day-to-day business has no authority to approve such additional spending.
Socialist Deputy Prime Minister Frank Vandenbroucke opposed this position. Still, De Croo and De Wever agreed that it will be up to the parties in the Arizona coalition to make this decision.
