Las Vegas Grand Prix: FP2 Highlights and Insights
Ah, the Las Vegas Grand Prix! The only race where the pit stops are just as likely to be interrupted by Elvis impersonators as by tire changes! But let’s get serious. On this thrilling Friday evening, Lewis Hamilton kept the momentum going, clocking in at a blistering 1:33.825 to dominate the second practice session. Perhaps he finally found that extra boost of speed by eating one too many of those absurdly large burgers on the Strip!
Hot on his tail was Lando Norris, just 11 thousandths of a second shy of Hamilton’s time. You’ve got to love the close competition! If this were a ‘who can get lost in Vegas’ contest, Hamilton would probably emerge victorious, having lost Norris somewhere near the roulette tables. Meanwhile, George Russell rounded out the Mercedes trio in third, proving that Mercedes is still very much in the game, or should we say, “game on!”?
Ferrari’s Fast and Furious Duo
In a commendable display, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc drove their Ferraris into P4 and P5, respectively. They were quick, which is promising. Not surprisingly, Ferrari always knows how to throw in a “late-breaking” performance, much like their pit crew does when they forget the tires! That said, watching them manage to stay competitive in a world dominated by Mercedes is like watching a cat trying to catch a laser pointer—it’s amusing, and you keep wondering if it’ll actually catch up.
Alpine Making Waves
A quick shout-out to Pierre Gasly from Alpine, who managed to land in P6. Now that’s the kind of finish that deserves a celebratory drink! I mean, at this point, even being in the top 10 is like winning the lottery, especially when your teammate Esteban Ocon squeezes in at P12. It’s all about partnership, folks—like a buddy system for not getting lost on the Vegas Strip!
Haas Steps Up
And let’s not overlook the Haas team, who comfortably snuck in with Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hülkenberg at P7 and P9, respectively. Just like a classic Las Vegas act, they’re proving that sometimes, it’s not about how flashy you are—it’s about being consistent while you keep the audience guessing.
Red Bull’s Mysterious Plight
Now here’s a twist! Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, usually making headlines, found themselves languishing in P17 and P19. Is it just me, or does that feel like the ultimate ‘what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’ moment? The two Red Bull drivers should consider a magic show for the weekend because they definitely had no tricks up their sleeves during FP2!
Well, that wraps up another unpredictable day of racing action on the hallowed tarmac of Las Vegas. Tune in tonight at 11:30 PM Brasília time for the final training session, and let’s see if the drama continues or if someone manages to find a way to outshine Hamilton, our reigning king of the circuit!

Lando Norris, demonstrating remarkable skill, trailed closely behind Hamilton, finishing in a commendable second place with a time of just 11 thousandths of a second slower than the Mercedes driver. Meanwhile, George Russell, who had earlier secured second place in FP1, wrapped up the session in third, marking a notable performance just 0.190 seconds off his teammate’s impressive pace.

Pierre Gasly kept the momentum going for Alpine, maintaining a strong presence in the top 10 throughout FP2, ultimately finishing the session in sixth place. His teammate, Esteban Ocon, concluded the session in 12th position, showing potential for improvement as the weekend progresses.

On the Red Bull front, Yuki Tsunoda emerged as the team’s best performer in tenth, while Liam Lawson’s efforts placed him ahead of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, who faced difficulties throughout the session, finishing in 15th and 19th places, respectively. Verstappen’s performance was particularly surprising as he ended the session in 17th, while Perez could only manage to outpace Alexander Albon, who had a challenging stint with fuel flow issues, completing only four laps in his Williams FW46.
