Jakub Dobes had a lot to say about American League refereeing after a 2-1 defeat for the Laval Rocket in which he was sensational, Wednesday night at Place Bell, against the Rochester Americans.
Dobes did not return to the ice at the end of the game to greet the fans after receiving the first star.
This is because the goalkeeper took very badly the decision to refuse a goal to Sean Farrell in the first period.
“I don’t understand some people in this league,” Dobes cursed. The first goal, I can’t even understand how it’s not a goal. I’m not going to sleep well if this referee is on duty for another one of our matches.
“I was trying to talk to him, but he didn’t care.”
After long deliberations of almost fifteen minutes, it was decided that Farrell’s goal was not good.
“It bothers me that we rely on an iPad,” lamented the Czech. The referee was behind the net. I would have liked him to make a man of himself and award the goal, because it was a good goal.”

“The thing that bothers me is that we’re relying on an iPad. [The referee] was right behind the net. I wish he will man up and give a good goal, because it was a good goal.”

In overtime, another sequence sowed controversy. We seemed to trip Logan Mailloux and the Americans took the opportunity to settle the debate.
Dobes can take solace in his stats this season: a 6-1-1 record, a 2.32 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage.
The Rocket will take over again on Saturday against the Belleville Senators.

**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us, Jakub. Let’s dive right into the recent game against the Rochester Americans. You received the first star of the match, which is quite the achievement, but the game ended in a close 2-1 defeat. How do you feel about your performance?
**Jakub Dobes:** I appreciate the recognition, but honestly, it’s tough to celebrate when we didn’t come away with the win. I did my best to keep the team in the game, but we fell short. It’s frustrating, especially when I feel like we could have had a different outcome.
**Interviewer:** There was quite a controversy surrounding a disallowed goal by Sean Farrell in the first period. Can you share your thoughts on that decision?
**Jakub Dobes:** Absolutely, I can’t wrap my head around it. From where I stood, it looked like a legitimate goal, and it was really disheartening to see it not count. We spent nearly fifteen minutes discussing it, and I still don’t understand why it was ruled out. It really affected our momentum, and I think it’s something that needs to be addressed in the league.
**Interviewer:** You mentioned your concerns about the officiating. Can you elaborate on that?
**Jakub Dobes:** Just that I don’t understand how some decisions are made. In a crucial moment like that, relying on an iPad for a call feels off. I tried to communicate with the referee, but it was clear he wasn’t listening. I worry that if this continues, it will affect the game’s integrity. If that referee is assigned to another one of our games, it’s going to weigh on my mind.
**Interviewer:** It sounds like there’s a lot of frustration over the officiating in the league. How do you plan to manage that moving forward as a team?
**Jakub Dobes:** We have to focus on what we can control, which is our performance on the ice. Sure, it’s frustrating when external factors play a role, but we need to put our energy into improving our game and finishing strong. We can’t let one call dictate our season. It’s important to stay positive and keep pushing forward.
**Interviewer:** Thank you for your insights, Jakub. Best of luck in your upcoming games!
**Jakub Dobes:** Thank you! I appreciate it.
