Lights, Camera, and a Whole Lot of Action at TFI Torino Film Industry!
November is upon us, and you know what that means! Time for the TFI Torino Film Industry to strut its stuff in Italy. Yes, you guessed it, Turin is rolling out the red carpet from the 21st to the 27th of the month, and it’s not just for celebs flashing their ever-so-sparkly gowns – it’s for new talents and emerging cinematic trends! And if that floats your boat, hold onto your popcorn because this event is packing a punch.
What the Heck is TFI Torino Film Industry?
Well, let’s break it down. Born in 2018 with the noble aim of enhancing the bustling cinema scene in Turin, TFI has transformed itself into a sprawling marketplace where the film industry’s finest gather to share ideas, projects, and perhaps a cheeky glass of Chianti or two. It tries to cater to a veritable smorgasbord of audiovisual professionals—because who doesn’t want to network like there’s no tomorrow?
Crammed with Events – Let’s Count the Ways!
And you thought your calendar was busy! This year’s event promises to be an extravaganza of activities, with everything from pitching sessions to panels, workshops, and one-on-one meetings. Taking place at the historic Circolo dei Lettori and six other scenic spots in Turin (I mean, who doesn’t love a bit of lugging their equipment from venue to venue?), attendees will be spoiled for choice.
Expect topics that range wider than your Aunt Marge’s opinions at the family Christmas dinner – from international co-production and project development to the fascinating interplay between live entertainment and tech innovations!
Partners in Crime
This event isn’t flying solo. Join hands with the Torino Piemonte Film Commission, TorinoFilmLab, the National Short Film Center, and an international cadre of documentary buffs at the IDS Italian Doc Screenings. Honestly, with so many partnerships going around, it’s a wonder they don’t form an Australian-style “film festival union” by the end of the week!
Geared Up for Inclusivity!
In a world that sometimes feels like it’s auditioning for a dystopian film, TFI shines with conversations about LGBTQIA+ cinema and accessibility in the arts. If they throw in a discussion on how to save the world from bad sequels, I might just burst into happy tears!
From 21 to 27 November, the dynamic city of Turin will host the highly anticipated seventh edition of TFI Torino Film Industry, an event dedicated to discovering new talents and exploring emerging cinematic trends, designed to meet the diverse needs of a wide array of audiovisual professionals. In collaboration with the prestigious Torino Film Festival and the renowned National Cinema Museum, TFI positions itself as the vibrant “work & business” nexus of the city’s longstanding film celebration.
Launched in 2018 with the goal of enhancing Turin’s cinematic landscape, TFI Torino Film Industry has consistently evolved into a multifaceted event, embracing a diverse program that continues to expand year after year.
Among the key founders of this initiative, the Torino Piemonte Film Commission has played a pivotal role in coordinating the market since its inception, teaming up with TorinoFilmLab and the National Short Film Center, which proudly presents the ShorTO Film Market in this edition. The partnership with the National Cinema Museum has been strengthened through the contributions of the Lovers Film Festival and the introduction of the CinemAmbiente Festival for the first time this year. Additionally, Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo continues its collaboration with the innovative onLive Campus initiative, following a successful launch last year.
The extensive network of Piedmontese institutions enriches the event with a plethora of activities, complemented by the “Partner Event” IDS Italian Doc Screenings, which serves as the flagship showcase of the Doc/it – Italian Documentary Film Association and is entering its fifth consecutive year alongside TFI Torino Film Industry.
With backing from the Piedmont Region and the City of Turin, and support from the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation and the Turin Chamber of Commerce, TFI Torino Film Industry features a variety of engaging activities including pitching sessions, panels, workshops, and individualized meetings. These interactions will take place at the historic Circolo dei Lettori in Turin, as well as across seven notable venues in the city: the Sala Paolo Tenna at the Film Commission Torino Piemonte; the Regional Museum of Natural Sciences; the iconic Cinema Greenwich Village Turin; the lively Le Roi Dancing Music Hall Lutrario; the National Museum of the Risorgimento; and the uniquely themed “Mystery Bar – TFI7 Social Bar.”
The thematic focus spans across crucial industry topics such as international co-production, project development, set professions, and the vital culture of accessibility, while also addressing pressing issues like environmental responsibility and sustainability. Further discussions will include LGBTQIA+ cinema and audiovisual works, the intersection of live entertainment with emerging technologies, and the mentorship and education of young and aspiring filmmakers.
TFI Torino Film Industry offers an impressive lineup consisting of 7 panel sessions, 7 workshops, and 4 distinct pitching sessions, each bearing unique titles. These insightful meetings will delve into various dimensions of the audiovisual landscape, aiming to fortify independent Piedmontese cinema and propel its presence on the international market.
