FC Barcelona is postponing its return to the converted Camp Nou until mid-February at the earliest. The top Spanish football club announced this to club members with season tickets via email, as reported by the trade newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” and other media.
The home game against Rayo Vallecano, scheduled for the weekend of February 15th and 16th, could be the first encounter in the modernized stadium. But Barca did not confirm this in the email, it was said.
After several delays, the return was most recently planned for the end of January or beginning of February. According to media reports, the club now justified the renewed delay with “UEFA regulations, which prohibit a change of stadium during the group stage of the Champions League”.
The last time was a year and a half ago at the Camp Nou
Because of “the logistical challenges and the additional costs associated with operating two large stadiums at the same time,” the club also decided not to carry out a partial move. The home league games will therefore continue to be played in the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium until the end of the group phase of the European premier class.
The Catalans’ last game at the Camp Nou was a year and a half ago. In the penultimate round of the 2022/2023 league season, RCD Mallorca was defeated 3-0 in May 2023.
