RigaLive Songwriting Camp Celebrates Global Talent and Creative Collaborations

The tenth “RigaLive” songwriting camp has ended, in which 34 participants from eight countries took part this time.

The tenth “RigaLive” session was attended by musicians, authors and music producers from Latvia, as well as Sweden, Georgia, Great Britain, Japan, the Czech Republic, Poland, Estonia and Hungary. On the eve of the second day, 22 new song demo recordings had been made, which, as the experts admitted, in most cases sounded very close to radio quality material – in high creative and technical performance.

One of the participants of “RigaLive”, songwriter and performer Olivers Patocka from Budapest, says: “The choice of participants was excellent! It’s always difficult to build successful teams and the organizers have to take many aspects into account, but I think they did an excellent job, as evidenced by the songs we created during the camp. Although there were many participants, the atmosphere was like a big family – very cozy. I was lucky enough to be part of two songs that will be released next year. I am very grateful for the experience!”

Marek Hojda (Music Export Poland, Poland), Rēlika Lelle (Sony Music Entertainment, Estonia), Tom Barons Lūkis (European Hit Radio), Papa Chi (video director) and Gatis Zaķis (music producer, sound engineer).

Since the first “RigaLive” camp, which took place in September 2017, 238 participants from 18 countries have participated in this platform. In total, more than 200 songs have been created, of which 59 have been published.

Agnese Cimuška-Rekke, executive director of “Music Latvia” and organizer of “RigaLive”: “”RigaLive” is not just a songwriting camp – it is a platform where talent, creativity and love of music meet. We are proud of what we have achieved since the first camp, and we are especially happy about how “RigaLive” continues to inspire, create collaborations and create new music that resonates more than just in Latvia. This tenth session was another confirmation that music unites and helps to reach new heights.”

The Tenth RigaLive Songwriting Camp: A Melodic Melting Pot!

Well, folks, hold onto your instruments because the tenth “RigaLive” songwriting camp has struck its final chord, and the result? A cacophony of creativity from the best and brightest across eight countries! Yes, 34 lucky participants got together to jam, create, and probably argue over the best chord progressions.

Now, let me just say, when you bring together musicians, authors, and producers from Latvia, Sweden, Georgia, Great Britain, Japan, the Czech Republic, Poland, Estonia, and Hungary, you don’t just get a camp—you get a full-blown United Nations of sound! Imagine the creative chaos: a Latvian saying, “I think it should sound like this…” right next to a Japanese artist nodding along, probably thinking, “I have no idea what you just said, but it sounds catchy!”

On the eve of the second day of this sonic shindig, they managed to whip up 22 new song demo recordings. And the experts claim these tunes are practically radio-ready. Radio-ready! The last time my tunes were radio-ready, it was to drown out the sounds of my flatmates arguing about who left the milk out. Oh, the glorious, unadulterated magic of songwriting camps!

Now, let’s hear from Olivers Patocka, the Budapest-born songwriter who was lucky enough to be part of this perfect storm of talent. He says, “The choice of participants was excellent!” Well, Olivers, I’m glad you thought so—because the wrong choice probably would have led to an hour of kazoo solos and interpretive dance movements. He continued to rave about the cozy atmosphere they built, stating, “Although there were many participants, it felt like a big family.” A big family? That sounds more like a sitcom dusted with musical notes and awkward silences. Who needs Netflix when you have a live show of familial chaos in a songwriting camp?

Featuring a lineup of experts like Marek Hojda (Music Export Poland), Rēlika Lelle (Sony Music Entertainment, Estonia), and the infallible Gatis Zaķis (music producer, sound engineer)—it sounds like quite the party! Or, you know, a committee meeting that went a little too far.

Since its inception back in September 2017, “RigaLive” has opened its arms to 238 participants from 18 different countries! More than 200 songs later, with 59 already published, it’s fair to say “RigaLive” is more than just a camp; it’s a music-makin’ machine! In a world where songwriters often sit alone staring at a blank page (or their ex’s Instagram), “RigaLive” has created a collaborative wonderland where ideas flow freer than the coffee at a music festival.

Agnese Cimuška-Rekke, the executive director of “Music Latvia” and mastermind behind “RigaLive,” proudly states, “RigaLive is not just a songwriting camp – it is a platform where talent, creativity, and love of music meet.” And let’s face it, folks, love is what makes the world go round, right? Right after caffeine and maybe a pint or two of lager on a Friday night.

As we celebrate this tenth session, let’s remember that music truly has the power to unite. Whether you’re jamming with a Latvian, getting advice from a Hungarian, or possibly just attending for the coffee and snacks, “RigaLive” continues to inspire, collaborate, and reach new heights— and that’s something we can all get behind!

So here’s to the next “RigaLive” camp and the beautiful chaos it will bring! If you’re not involved now, you might as well learn to play the triangle and join in. After all, every great orchestra needs its triangles!

The tenth edition of the famed “RigaLive” songwriting camp has successfully concluded, showcasing the immense talent of 34 participants hailing from eight diverse countries.

This milestone session welcomed a vibrant mix of musicians, songwriters, and music producers not only from Latvia but also from Sweden, Georgia, Great Britain, Japan, the Czech Republic, Poland, Estonia, and Hungary. Remarkably, by the evening of the second day, the collaborative efforts had already resulted in the creation of 22 new song demo recordings. Industry experts praised these demos, emphasizing that they were impressively close to achieving radio-quality standards, highlighting both the creative flair and technical skill on display.

Olivers Patocka, a talented songwriter and performer from Budapest, expressed his enthusiasm for the experience, stating, “The choice of participants was excellent! It’s always difficult to build successful teams, and the organizers must consider numerous factors, but they’ve done a remarkable job, as so clearly evidenced by the songs we’ve crafted during the camp. Despite the large number of participants, the atmosphere felt like a close-knit family – very cozy. I was fortunate enough to contribute to two songs slated for release next year. I’m immensely grateful for this enriching experience!”

Marek Hojda (Music Export Poland, Poland), Rēlika Lelle (Sony Music Entertainment, Estonia), Tom Barons Lūkis (European Hit Radio), Papa Chi (video director), and Gatis Zaķis (music producer, sound engineer).

Since the inception of the “RigaLive” camp in September 2017, a total of 238 participants from 18 countries have shared their artistry on this unique platform. More than 200 songs have been birthed from these collaborative sessions, with an impressive 59 of them having been officially released.

Agnese Cimuška-Rekke, executive director of “Music Latvia” and the driving force behind “RigaLive,” proudly stated, “”RigaLive” is not just a songwriting camp – it is a vibrant platform where talent, creativity, and a shared love of music converge. We celebrate our achievements since the inaugural camp with pride, and we are especially delighted by how “RigaLive” continues to inspire artists, foster collaborations, and generate new music that resonates far beyond the borders of Latvia. This tenth session further reaffirmed that music possesses the extraordinary power to unite people and elevate artistic expression to new heights.”
