Monterrey, Nuevo León.- In a crucial appearance before the State Congress, Secretaries Alma Rosa Marroquín and Graciela Buchanan took the stage to elaborate on the current state of public health and safety for women in Nuevo León as part of Governor Samuel Alejandro García Sepúlveda’s Third Government Report.
The Secretary of Health, Alma Rosa Marroquín, proclaimed the administration’s commitment to revolutionizing the health care system in Nuevo León. She emphasized, “Today that objective is a reality, demonstrating our dedication to providing comprehensive health services to all residents.”
“Through unstoppable work, collaboration between institutions, and the commitment of our Government we have managed to take firm steps towards a stronger, more accessible and humane health system; Today we can say with great pride that we have generated a new, unique and innovative model of comprehensive health care for everyone,” she stated emphatically.
Marroquín Escamilla highlighted that the establishment of a trust for high-cost diseases in December 2021 marks a significant stride towards universal health coverage for catastrophic illnesses within the state. This initiative is crucial for those grappling with substantial health challenges.
The Secretary elaborated on the Take Care of Your Health Program, which guarantees access to medical services for individuals lacking health rights. This initiative has registered over one million one hundred thousand individuals to date, showcasing its widespread impact.
This program includes a special focus on children battling cancer, offering them and their families a lifeline during daunting medical and financial struggles. Likewise, the Universal Coverage program for Breast Cancer was instituted in April 2022, along with the Asistimos con Amor initiative, aimed at providing maternal support through home visits by trained health professionals.
In July 2023, the Feed with Love program was launched, promoting optimal nutrition for infants right from birth, ensuring their healthy growth and development.
“The strengthening of the mental health and addictions intervention program includes the opening of the Mental Health Specialties Hospital in June 2023, as well as the two Mental Health and Addictions Rehabilitation centers and their integration with the 28 CECOSAMA (Community Center of Mental Health and Addictions), showcasing our commitment to comprehensive mental health care,” she added.
Marroquín noted that additional initiatives such as the Universal Coverage programs for the Heart Attack Code, the Hey, Hear and Listen initiative for deaf children, and the upcoming Institute of Maternal Fetal Medicine, inaugurating in March 2024, underline the ongoing improvements in health services.
During her address, Secretary of Women Graciela Buchanan stressed the paramount importance of combating violence against women through strategic alliances with various stakeholders, including state and municipal authorities, civil organizations, and academic institutions. She reported that these collaborations have successfully created municipal systems for preventing and addressing violence against women.
“One of the main (actions) as you already know is to position unique numbers for attention to violence such as 911 and 070, since, as we know, women did not have unique numbers for attention and so that it would be immediate and coordinated attention with the C5,” she expressed firmly.
“We have had 5,845 calls this year to 911, and 3,775 to 070. The data presented is to tell women that in Nuevo León if you mess with one, you mess with all of Nuevo León… in Nuevo León the Women are not alone, we listen to them, we believe them and we accompany them,” she asserted, reinforcing the state’s position on women’s issues.
The state official emphasized the significance of addressing new masculinities as part of a broader societal shift necessary to eradicate gender-based violence, further legitimizing the establishment of the crisis response number 070.
