Jakarta (ANTARA) – Doctor who graduated from the University of Indonesia, Ingrid Tania, reminded the public to be aware of various diseases that often appear during the rainy season and floods.
These diseases are generally caused by viral, bacterial or parasitic infections, the risk of which increases due to disturbed environmental hygiene conditions.
“During the rainy season, diseases such as colds, influenza and respiratory tract infections often occur. Apart from that, digestive tract infections are also a threat, especially during floods because clean food or eating utensils are susceptible to being contaminated by microorganisms,” said the General Chair of the Doctors’ Association. He added that diarrhea due to viral or bacterial infections such as ‘Escherichia coli’ is one of the diseases that often occurs. Other diseases are transmitted via the fecal-oral route, such as typhoid fever which is caused by bacteria.
“Then, for example, Hepatitis A can also be transmitted via fecal or oral route, so it can be transmitted from what we eat, for example our eating utensils or contaminated food,” said Doctor Ingrid.
