While it traditionally took place in June, the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix will be brought forward to May from 2026, in order to avoid a trip to North America in the middle of the European GP season.

Canadian Formula 1 fans will have to change their habits. While since 1982, and the victory of Nelson Piquet, the Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix has systematically taken place in June, this will change from 2026. The F1 organizers have in fact announced that the Canadian GP would be held on the third or fourth weekend of May, for ecological and logistical reasons. Sometimes criticized for its lack of consistency in the calendar, the number 1 sport in the automotive world is trying to improve, and has therefore decided to avoid a long trip to North America in the paddock.while the month of June is reserved for European GPs. So, this season, the drivers completed the GPs of Emilia-Romagna and Monaco, before flying to Canada, then returning to the Old Continent for the GPs of Spain, Austria, Great Britain… He will be the same in 2025, with the Canadian GP set for June 15, between Spain (June 1) and Austria (June 29).

A goal of carbon neutrality in 2030

From 2026, it will take place after that of Miami and before that of Monaco, shifted from the end of May to the beginning of June, as was made official last week. “I am extremely grateful to the promoter and all government partners involved in the Canadian Grand Prix, from local to provincial and national government,” said Formula 1 President Stefano Domenicali. We welcome the considerable efforts made by all stakeholders to accelerate the temporary construction of the event, in order to be ready to welcome the Formula 1 community sooner than in the past. This change will make the future running of our calendar not only more sustainable, but also more logistically sound for our teams and staff. Our commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 remains a priority for us as a sport and it is through changes like this that we are on track to achieve our goal. »

What are the expected ⁢benefits of moving the Canadian‍ Grand Prix to ‌May for fans attending the ⁢event?

**Interview ‍with F1 Expert Alex ⁤Thompson on the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix Changes**

**Interviewer:**⁢ Good ‌afternoon, Alex! With the recent announcement about the Canadian Grand Prix being moved to May starting in ‌2026, how do you think this will affect the fans and the overall atmosphere at the event?

**Alex Thompson:** Good afternoon! Well, ⁢it’s certainly a big change for fans⁣ who⁣ have grown accustomed ‍to the June schedule since 1982. Moving⁤ it to May‍ will likely catch some people off guard initially, but I believe it can ‌have⁤ its advantages. The weather in May can be quite lovely ⁤in Montreal, ‍which⁤ should enhance the overall experience for attendees.

**Interviewer:** That’s⁢ a valid point. Do you think this timing will impact the teams⁢ and their‍ strategies during the season?

**Alex Thompson:** Absolutely. For teams, having the Canadian Grand Prix earlier in the season ‌could impact their travel logistics and preparation. They’ll need ⁣to ensure their cars are race-ready sooner,⁤ which may affect how they approach testing and development. Additionally, with fewer trips to North America ‍during the European GP season, we might see more concentrated efforts⁣ from‌ teams around these events.

**Interviewer:** With this⁢ move, do you see any implications ⁣for ‌the championship race itself?

**Alex Thompson:** It’s⁤ hard to‌ say definitively how it will impact the ‍championship⁢ race, but ‍earlier races in⁣ less predictable weather can lead to surprises. Historically, the Canadian GP has provided thrilling moments⁢ and unexpected results. An earlier slot in the calendar could add another layer of excitement and uncertainty as‍ team strategies evolve throughout the season.

**Interviewer:** what do you think about how this‍ change aligns⁢ with F1’s sustainability goals?

**Alex Thompson:** F1 has been making‌ strides‍ towards reducing its carbon footprint, and organizing races in a more ‍consolidated manner ⁢helps achieve that. Avoiding a trip to North America during ‍the European‍ season means less travel and lower emissions. It’s a step forward in aligning the sport’s scheduling with its sustainability ⁣initiatives, which is something fans and teams alike are ⁢now more conscious⁢ about.

**Interviewer:** Thank you, Alex. It will be interesting to see how these changes unfold in the ‍coming ⁤years!
