What are the key issues Indonesia is expected to focus on during the APEC Summit in Lima?
**Interview with Dr. Lina Santoso, Political Analyst and Expert on International Relations**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us, Dr. Santoso. As Prabowo Subianto, the President of Indonesia, prepares to attend the APEC Summit in Lima, what do you see as the main focus for Indonesia at this year’s event?
**Dr. Santoso:** Thank you for having me. Indonesia will be focusing on several key issues at the APEC Summit, primarily economic cooperation and sustainable development. Given the challenges faced globally, including post-pandemic recovery and climate change, Indonesia is likely to emphasize the importance of collaboration among APEC nations to tackle these pressing issues together.
**Editor:** We’ve heard that the setup for the media is quite welcoming at the event. How important is the role of the media during such international summits?
**Dr. Santoso:** The media plays a crucial role in international summits as they bridge the gap between leaders and the public. By providing coverage and analysis, they help inform citizens about the decisions being made that could impact their lives. The provision of a media center with facilities and food for journalists, as seen at this APEC Summit, reflects the importance of enabling thorough and efficient reporting.
**Editor:** What is your expectation for President Prabowo’s speech on the last day of the summit?
**Dr. Santoso:** His speech will be pivotal as it will encapsulate Indonesia’s stance on various issues discussed throughout the summit. I anticipate he’ll highlight Indonesia’s commitment to enhancing trade relationships in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as addressing key topics like digital economy and sustainable practices. It’s an opportunity for him to showcase Indonesia as a vital player in APEC discussions.
**Editor:** Lastly, could you tell us about the significance of the venue, the Lima Convention Center?
**Dr. Santoso:** The Lima Convention Center is a strategic and symbolic choice for the APEC Summit. Located in a cultural heart of Lima, it represents Peru’s heritage while also serving as a modern facility for international dialogues. It’s important for the host country to present a venue that reflects both its tradition and its aspirations in global cooperation. The environment of the convention center encourages a productive atmosphere for negotiations and discussions.
**Editor:** Thank you, Dr. Santoso, for your insights. We look forward to hearing more about the outcomes of the APEC Summit.
**Dr. Santoso:** My pleasure! I’m excited to see how this summit will shape the future of APEC collaborations.
