Betty White to Be Honored with New Postage Stamp in 2025

The late and cherished actress from “Golden Girls,” <a href="https://www.archyde.com/betty-white-the-legendary-actress-who-conquered-american-television-for-8-decades-dies-at-99/" title="Betty White: the legendary actress who conquered American television for 8 decades dies at 99″>Betty White, is set to be honored with a new postage stamp in 2025.

The U.S. Postal Service announced Friday that White’s likeness will be part of its lineup of Forever Stamp offerings for the year.

Widely celebrated for her work, White passed away in 2021, just days before she would have celebrated her milestone 100th birthday. Throughout her stellar career, she not only captivated fans with her iconic role in “Golden Girls,” but she also left an indelible mark with remarkable performances in “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “Boston Legal.”

In a release showcasing a preview of the stamp, the Postal Service referred to Betty White as an “icon of American television” who “shared her wit and warmth with viewers for seven decades.”

“The comedic actor, who gained younger generations of fans as she entered her 90s, was also revered as a compassionate advocate for animals,” the release highlighted, acknowledging her profound impact not just as an entertainer but also as a fierce supporter of animal rights.

The stamp features a captivating 2010 photograph captured by Kwaku Alston, showcasing White’s radiant smile against a vibrant purple background. This beloved image has been transformed into a beautiful digital illustration by artist Dale Stephanos, with design oversight provided by Greg Breeding, an art director for the Postal Service.

“I’d love to send a letter back to my 18-year-old self with this stamp on it and tell him that everything is going to be OK,” Stephanos wrote on Facebook, expressing a heartfelt connection to the nostalgic sentiment the stamp evokes.

Additionally, the Postal Service confirmed that legendary musician Allen Toussaint will be commemorated with a stamp in the Black Heritage series. This ongoing collection has honored figures from various backgrounds, alternating between male and female artists, and Toussaint’s tribute will mark the 48th addition.

Describing the late Toussaint, who left this world in 2015, the Postal Service recognized him as a “virtuoso pianist, singer, songwriter, composer, arranger, and producer responsible for scores of hits across multiple genres.”

The stamp featuring Toussaint incorporates a striking 2007 photo taken by Bill Tompkins, with the design crafted by Ethel Kessler, also an art director within the Postal Service.

Other anticipated 2025 stamp offerings include a love-themed design inspired by artist Keith Haring, a vibrant Lunar New Year stamp celebrating the year of the snake, and a delightful collection featuring baby wild animals.

“This early glimpse into our 2025 stamp program demonstrates our commitment to providing a diverse range of subjects and designs for both philatelists and stamp enthusiasts,” said Lisa Bobb-Semple, who serves as the Postal Service’s stamp services director.

Additional details on upcoming stamps for 2025 will be unveiled in the near future, although the specific release dates remain to be confirmed.
