A new death occurred in Antioquia due to aesthetic procedures in unauthorized places. Xiomara Agudelo, a 25-year-old girl from San Rafael, lost her life after undergoing liposuction at an aesthetic center in that municipality.

The procedure, carried out last Tuesday, November 12, left serious complications when during the intervention, which requires perforations in the body, damage occurred to the patient’s intestine.

According to preliminary investigations, the beauty center was only authorized to perform non-invasive procedures, such as massages, and did not have the necessary conditions for complex cosmetic surgeries.

After the intervention, Xiomara experienced typical postoperative discomfort. However, starting Friday, the symptoms worsened. The young woman began to experience fever, nausea and sustained paleness.

On Saturday, with her symptoms worsening, she was taken to the Presbítero Alonso María Giraldo Hospital in San Rafael. There, doctors discovered that the surgery had perforated his intestine, causing a serious infection. The specialists washed the affected area and sent the young woman to a more complex hospital in Rionegro.

Despite medical efforts, Xiomara died early Sunday morning from severe peritonitis, a life-threatening inflammation of the membrane that lines the abdomen, caused by intestinal perforation.

The Antioquia Health Section has begun investigations into the aesthetic center and the professional in charge of performing the intervention who would travel from Medellín to San Rafael to perform invasive procedures, despite the fact that the establishment lacks permits.

**Dr. Benitez:** Thank you for having me.
