“Agoramana” stops at the act theater on November 15, 16 and 17

After the two very successful theater seasons in Athens and tours throughout Greece, this time the show “Agoramana” comes to Patras.

What will we see on stage? A new mother finds that raising children under conditions of social pressure and incessant “well-intentioned” instructions ends up being an arduous, intensive and lonely job. Is she the only one who feels this way? Is she a bad mother? Why does a woman to be “complete” have to have children? How true is the narrative of family happiness you serve to young people? And what’s up with the men anyway?

Through a very personal style, which combines stand-up comedy, documentary and musical theatre, “Agoramana” explores, chronicles and deconstructs the experiences of parenthood, gradually sheds light on gender roles and boldly unravels the thread of violence against of women*. With its subversive subject matter, the show challenges viewers of all genders and ages to reexamine the systematic impact of social stereotypes and power structures on all of our lives.

Each show hosts a different guest, who integrates into the stage action and contributes with a unique perspective on the themes of the show.

“This load of logistics that mom has on her head is huge! To take a break from what I live, I go to the greengrocer, my friend…”

“Anyway, I’m not having a child with a man again.”

*During the show there are clear references and descriptions around the issue of obstetric violence. If you are a victim of obstetric violence, do not hesitate to seek help and support from certified professionals and agencies.

How does the⁣ inclusion of guest speakers enhance the narrative and discussion of sensitive topics in the show?

**Interview with Aphrodite Mitsopoulou, Co-Creator of⁣ “Agoramana”**

**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Aphrodite! ‌”Agoramana” is making its way to Patras after two successful⁤ seasons in Athens. Can you give us ⁤a⁣ brief overview of what audiences can expect‌ from ⁤the show?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** Absolutely! “Agoramana” is a unique blend of stand-up comedy, documentary, and ⁢musical theatre. It⁢ follows a new mother ⁤as she navigates the challenges ‍of‌ raising⁢ children amidst social pressure and unsolicited advice. The⁢ show ⁤tackles pervasive themes such as motherhood, societal expectations, and gender roles,‍ while‍ also addressing the issue of‍ violence against women.⁣ It’s an intimate yet provocative exploration of what it really means to ⁢be a⁣ parent⁤ in today’s world.

**Editor:** That sounds incredibly powerful. What⁤ inspired you to tackle⁣ such sensitive subjects through this‍ format?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** The inspiration stemmed from conversations with many ‍mothers who shared their experiences ⁣with ‍me. I realized that while‌ motherhood is‍ often⁢ romanticized, it can‌ be isolating and daunting. I wanted to create ‍a space⁤ on stage where these feelings could be voiced⁢ honestly,⁣ with a⁢ mix of humor and ⁣gravity. By incorporating different perspectives from‌ our guest speakers, we’re ⁢able to ⁢delve deeper into ‍these issues ‍and‍ spark⁢ a ‌dialogue about societal norms and stereotypes.

**Editor:**‍ You mentioned that⁢ each performance features⁤ a different‍ guest who contributes a unique‍ perspective. Can you ‌tell us more about that?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:**‌ Yes! Each‌ guest brings their own experiences and insights related to⁣ the themes of the show, enriching the narrative. It allows for a ‌dynamic⁣ interaction‍ and ‌encourages the audience to ‌question their own views on parenting and gender roles. It’s a collaboration that reflects the collective struggle and triumph of motherhood, and the need for ⁣community support.

**Editor:** The show touches⁤ on ‌themes like obstetric⁤ violence. Why do you think it’s⁣ important to include such topics⁤ in the conversation?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** These are ⁤often-taboo subjects that deserve to⁢ be highlighted, especially in a culture⁤ that frequently silences women’s experiences.⁢ By addressing obstetric violence⁣ directly, we aim to raise awareness and‌ encourage victims to seek help. Our hope is that “Agoramana” not only entertains but also empowers individuals to address⁢ and ‍challenge these ⁤issues.

**Editor:** What do you hope the audience takes away from the performance?

**Aphrodite Mitsopoulou:** I hope the‍ audience leaves‍ feeling seen and heard, especially⁤ those navigating the challenges of parenthood. I also wish to encourage ‌conversations around the ‍pressures that come with societal expectations. Ultimately, we want ⁣to foster a sense of solidarity and empowerment, reminding⁣ everyone that they are ⁤not alone in their struggles.

**Editor:** Thank you, Aphrodite, for sharing your insights with us. “Agoramana” sounds like a must-see performance, and we’re excited to have it coming ‌to Patras!

**Aphrodite⁤ Mitsopoulou:** Thank you! We’re looking forward to⁣ engaging with the audience in Patras and continuing this important ‌conversation.
