**Interview with Mr. Ahmed Bouhaddou, Spokesperson for Sonatrach Group**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Mr. Bouhaddou. We just learned that Sonatrach has received a significant shipment of equipment for seawater desalination. Can you explain the importance of this project for Algeria?
**Ahmed Bouhaddou:** Thank you for having me. This project reflects our commitment to strengthening water security in Algeria, particularly in a climate where freshwater resources are becoming increasingly scarce. By establishing five seawater desalination stations, we aim to provide a total capacity of 1.5 million cubic meters per day, which will greatly contribute to both domestic water supply and agricultural needs.
**Editor:** That sounds impressive! How does this initiative align with President Tebboune’s broader national program?
**Ahmed Bouhaddou:** This project is indeed a key component of President Tebboune’s vision to enhance the sustainable management of water resources in Algeria. By implementing this complementary national program, we are addressing the pressing issue of water scarcity head-on, ensuring that citizens have access to clean water while also supporting our agricultural sector.
**Editor:** What role does Sonatrach play in the construction and operation of these desalination stations?
**Ahmed Bouhaddou:** As Algeria’s national oil and gas company, Sonatrach brings extensive expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects. We are overseeing the construction of these desalination plants, and once operational, we will manage their maintenance and efficient operation to ensure they meet the needs of the communities they serve.
**Editor:** When are we expected to see these desalination stations operational?
**Ahmed Bouhaddou:** We are working diligently to expedite the construction process. While I cannot provide a specific timeline at this moment, we are aiming to have the first station online within the next couple of years, with the goal of contributing significantly to Algeria’s water supply.
**Editor:** Thank you, Mr. Bouhaddou, for sharing this valuable information with us. It’s encouraging to see such proactive steps towards ensuring water security in Algeria.
**Ahmed Bouhaddou:** Thank you for having me! It’s important for us to keep the public informed about initiatives that aim to improve their quality of life.
