YouTube, Google’s popular video sharing service, has quietly undergone a major overhaul.
Yes, now if you open YouTube without signing in to Google account, the home page will be completely blank.
Previously, if you opened YouTube even without logging in to an account, there were a number of videos that were recommended based on the user’s local history.
However, now if you log out of the web browser, or open YouTube on a browser without Google account login or use incognito mode, a blank page will appear when opening the video sharing website.
A message will be written on this blank page asking the user to search for videos.
It is unclear when YouTube made the change, as it was not announced by the company.
However, such a change was hinted at in August 2023, under which users were to be given the option to keep the YouTube homepage blank.
At the time it was mentioned that you had to clear your YouTube watch history to blank the homepage.
On the occasion, YouTube added that several features are connected to Watch History, including a home feed, and this new change will be better for users who prefer to search for content themselves instead of recommendations.
But then this change was not implemented as it was heavily criticized by users.
Now this new change has been made which is somewhat good or bad for the users is not yet clear.

How might YouTube’s overhaul impact the platform’s competition with other video streaming services?
**Interview with Tech Analyst Jane Doe on YouTube’s Major Overhaul**
**Editor:** Today, we welcome Jane Doe, a tech analyst, to discuss YouTube’s recent significant changes to its homepage layout. Jane, can you give us a brief overview of what’s happened?
**Jane Doe:** Absolutely. YouTube has made a surprising shift whereby users who visit the platform without signing in will now see a completely blank homepage. Previously, even non-signed-in users would have access to recommended videos based on their local watch history. This overhaul is seemingly designed to push users to engage more actively with content by searching themselves instead of relying on algorithms for recommendations.
**Editor:** This is a big departure from what users are accustomed to. Why do you think YouTube made this change now?
**Jane Doe:** It’s hard to say definitively, but YouTube hinted at this idea back in August 2023, suggesting the option for a blank homepage as a way for users to have more control over their viewing choices. Although there was significant pushback then, it appears they’ve followed through with the change now—possibly attempting to cater to a segment of users who prefer to search for content actively rather than being fed recommendations.
**Editor:** What has been the general reaction from users about this modification?
**Jane Doe:** User reactions have been mixed. Some appreciate the newfound control, while others feel it’s a disservice, especially for casual browsers who might not want to sign in. The shift raises questions about accessibility: Is YouTube making its platform less user-friendly in pursuit of engagement?
**Editor:** That’s a great point. Do you think this change could have any long-term implications for users’ viewing habits on YouTube?
**Jane Doe:** It’s possible. If users find the blank homepage disengaging, they might reduce their visits or search for competitors offering a more curated experience. Conversely, it might encourage proactive searching, leading to users discovering a wider variety of content. The real question is whether these changes will drive user loyalty or frustration.
**Editor:** Considering all that’s been discussed, we’re curious: What do you think, dear readers? Is YouTube’s new blank homepage a welcome shift towards user autonomy, or does it undermine the platform’s accessibility and discoverability? Let’s ignite a debate!
