16 November 2024
Team Gresini Racing MotoGP concluded a pivotal day on the racetrack, marking the penultimate race of the intense 2024 season. Both riders demonstrated their competitive spirit, successfully earning valuable points during the sprint race. Alex Marquez crossed the finish line in fifth place after an exhilarating battle for the podium against formidable opponents Bastianini and Espargarò.
Unfortunately, the #73 rider faced a setback when he ran wide with only two laps remaining, which ultimately dashed his hopes for a top three finish. Nonetheless, he secured five points, which will help him maintain his presence in the coveted top ten of the championship standings, and he is closing in on Di Giannantonio and Morbidelli, who are both just five points ahead.
In contrast, Marc Marquez experienced a more troubled race right from the start, coming perilously close to a collision during the initial moments. Shortly thereafter, he was involved in a significant encounter with Pedro Acosta. With his rear wings unusable, Marquez had to adopt a more defensive riding style throughout the race. His seventh-place finish resulted in a six-point deficit to Bastianini, who secured second on the day, leaving Marquez five points shy of the third place in the final championship standings.
5th – ALEX MARQUEZ #73
“I’m pleased with my performance in the sprint race, though I’m disappointed with my qualifying efforts where I made too many errors. I was fortunate at the start, which allowed me an easy run through the opening turns, helping me regain several positions. However, my ambitious pursuit of a podium ultimately cost me a chance at fourth place. Still, I felt strong during the race and was the top-finishing GP23 rider, so my focus will now be on improving my standings tomorrow.”
7th – MARC MARQUEZ #93
“This sprint race posed several challenges; I struggled to find the right feel for my bike and identified areas that need improvement ahead of tomorrow’s race. A top five finish would be a welcome outcome, as my ambition is to break into the top three in the championship standings, though I’m currently experiencing difficulties. My start was complicated due to the need to avoid collisions with Jorge and Pecco, which caused me to lose precious time. The incident with Acosta wasn’t anyone’s fault, but it certainly impacted my race.”

**Alex Marquez:** Thanks for having me. It was a mixed day for sure. I’m happy to have finished fifth and gained those crucial points, but it’s a bit frustrating to have lost the chance for a podium so close to the end. I was battling hard with Bastianini and Espargarò, and I felt I had good pace.
**Editor:** It looked like an exciting race, especially towards the end. Can you walk us through what happened during those final laps that affected your podium ambitions?

It’s all about the bigger picture, and I’m glad I still came away with points.
**Editor:** Speaking of the bigger picture, how does this result affect your standings for the championship as we approach the final race of the season?
