“Agoramana” stops at the act theater on November 15, 16 and 17

After the two very successful theater seasons in Athens and tours throughout Greece, this time the show “Agoramana” comes to Patras.

What will we see on stage? A new mother finds that raising children under conditions of social pressure and incessant “well-intentioned” instructions ends up being an arduous, intensive and lonely job. Is she the only one who feels this way? Is she a bad mother? Why does a woman to be “complete” have to have children? How true is the narrative of family happiness you serve to young people? And what’s up with the men anyway?

Through a very personal style, which combines stand-up comedy, documentary and musical theatre, “Agoramana” explores, chronicles and deconstructs the experiences of parenthood, gradually sheds light on gender roles and boldly unravels the thread of violence against of women*. With its subversive subject matter, the show challenges viewers of all genders and ages to reexamine the systematic impact of social stereotypes and power structures on all of our lives.

Each show hosts a different guest, who integrates into the stage action and contributes with a unique perspective on the themes of the show.

“This load of logistics that mom has on her head is huge! To take a break from what I live, I go to the greengrocer, my friend…”

“Anyway, I’m not having a child with a man again.”

*During the show there are clear references and descriptions around the issue of obstetric violence. If you are a victim of obstetric violence, do not hesitate to seek help and support from certified professionals and agencies.

**Interview⁢ with Aphrodite Mitsopoulou, Co-Creator of “Agoramana”**

**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Aphrodite. “Agoramana” has already enjoyed success in Athens and across Greece. What inspired you‌ to bring this show to Patras?

**Aphrodite:** Thank you for having me! After the wonderful reception we received in Athens, we felt it⁣ was important to continue sharing the story of “Agoramana” with more ‍audiences, especially in Patras. The themes we explore are ‌universal, and we believe that many people in this city can‍ resonate with them, particularly ⁤around the⁤ pressures of motherhood and societal expectations.

**Editor:** The premise of ⁤”Agoramana” dives⁤ deep ⁢into the challenges of motherhood. Can you share what⁣ specific issues the show addresses?

**Aphrodite:** Absolutely. At ⁤its core, “Agoramana” highlights the struggle of a new ‍mother facing social pressures and ⁢unsolicited ⁣advice. It questions the narrative of family happiness ‌that society imposes on ⁢women and ⁣challenges the notion that having children is the only path to completeness. We also address the ‌often-overlooked topic of obstetric violence and the impact ⁣of⁢ gender roles on parenting.

**Editor:** The‌ show combines elements of stand-up comedy, documentary, and musical theatre. How does this unique blend enhance the audience’s experience?

**Aphrodite:** The combination allows us to⁣ tackle serious issues while also providing moments of levity and connection. By infusing humor with ‌documentary-style storytelling, we create a space where audiences can both⁣ reflect and laugh. It makes⁢ complex themes more accessible and relatable. ⁣Our guests also contribute varied perspectives, which adds depth to the conversation.

**Editor:** Can you tell us a bit ⁢about the special guests‍ who will be joining each show?

**Aphrodite:** Each performance ⁤features a different guest who brings their ‍own experiences and insights related to the themes of parenthood, gender roles, and societal pressures. This element keeps the show fresh and invites diverse viewpoints, fostering a dialogue with the audience.

**Editor:** What‍ do you hope audiences take away from “Agoramana”?

**Aphrodite:** I hope‌ that audiences leave with a deeper ‌understanding of ⁣the⁢ complexities of motherhood and the courage ⁤to question societal expectations. We want them to feel empowered to share their own stories and to ⁣recognize that they are not alone in their feelings. It’s important to dispel the myth of the ‘perfect’ parent and instead embrace the reality of our shared experiences.

**Editor:** Thank you, Aphrodite, for sharing ⁤your insights on this impactful show. We look forward to its performances in Patras on November 15, 16, and 17.

**Aphrodite:** Thank you! I can’t wait for everyone to experience “Agoramana.” It’s going to be a thought-provoking and entertaining journey!
