A Summer Fairy Tale in Winter: The Return of German Football
Ah, the sweet smell of nostalgia wafting through the crisp winter air! As we brace ourselves for another routine of warmth from the heater and unbearable small talk about the weather, the spirits of passionate football fandom are reigniting! It’s a fairy tale that insists on being told—like a sequel that no one knew they needed, but here we are, eager with anticipation!
The Home European Championships Documentary: A Footballing Resurrection
Guten Tag, my football fanatics! The excitement from last summer’s home European Championships is back—quicker than you can say, “Pass me the remote!” According to the illustrious BILD, RTL will unveil a documentary titled “Our team – the home European Championships 2024” on January 11, 2025. That’s right—mark your calendars or risk being eternally haunted by FOMO in your living room!
Exclusive Insights and Emotional Rollercoasters
This isn’t just another dry old documentary filled with blurry highlights and monotonous commentary. No, RTL promises “exclusive and emotional insights” from the team’s headquarters in sunny Herzogenaurach. Expect to see dressing room shenanigans and hear the rousing chants that echoed through the halls—because what could be better than watching grown men sweat it out in tight shorts while bonding over their love for a ball? 40 days of breathless anticipation packed into one sparkling evening of television. What a time to be alive!
“The impressive change of a team that became a true unit with team spirit and passion”—at this point, who knew team spirit could get us so misty-eyed? Grab the tissues, folks; we may need them! Who doesn’t love a comeback story, especially when it involves more than just mediocre football? Anything to remind us of those magical moments of unity, joy, and collective heartbreak when we face off against the mighty España!
From TV Screens to Movie Theaters
And remember, this isn’t just a one-stop-shop kind of affair! After gracing our television screens, the documentary will sashay to cinemas in the ten European Championship venues. Market research must indicate that watching a documentary about football at the same venue where it happened takes us one step closer to existential bliss! Cue the popcorn and tears!
A Bold Move from the DFB
Unlike the “All or Nothing” documentary about the 2022 World Cup in Qatar (which, let’s be honest, felt like watching your mate’s holiday slides—excruciating), this time it’s a DFB production, hand in hand with the Hamburg company OMR. Rudi Völler, the DFB’s sports director, assures us that they are finally doing it their way! No more meddling—no more editing masterpieces into bland specials. It’s DIY filmmaking 101, folks, with Rudi at the helm. Who else thinks we’re in for some “open book” moments no one signed up for?
Reflecting on Summer Dreams
The national coach, Julian Nagelsmann, was spied calling a team evening the other day, reminiscing on 17 minutes of fine memories from the home tournament. Let’s just hope none of those memories involve cringing at the quarter-final exit against then-European champions Spain—a bitter reminder that fairy tales sometimes get cut short. Just like that one mate who leaves midway through the group holiday…

But hey, if it takes revisiting those emotional moments to spark some magic back into the team again, bring it on! The fans are ready to relive the highs, the lows, and all those cheeky moments that made us collectively proud to support our boys in German football.
So get cozy, grab the nachos, and prepare yourself. 2025 is shaping up to be more dramatic than the last episode of your favorite soap opera. We will laugh, we will cry, and above all, we will cheer for the resurrection of our national heroes! Until then, keep dreaming, and let’s hope our boys charm us back into their hearts once again!
A summer fairy tale in winter…
The excitement and fervor that enveloped fans during the home European Championships last summer is starting to resurface. BILD previously reported on Thursday about an upcoming documentary centered around the tournament. The DFB has officially confirmed that on January 11, 2025, RTL will air a documentary highlighting the remarkable revival of the German national football team, available on free television as well as on-demand via RTL+ at 8:15 p.m. The documentary is titled: “Our team – the home European Championships 2024.”
Fans can eagerly anticipate exclusive and heartfelt glimpses from within the team’s headquarters in Herzogenaurach, along with behind-the-scenes footage from the dressing room. RTL promises that the documentary will showcase “the inspiring transformation of a team that evolved into a cohesive unit filled with spirit and passion.” Audiences will witness captivating recordings from the training camp, various test matches, and of course, the tournament itself. In total, filming occurred over an impressive span of 40 days.

Post the exclusive broadcast on RTL, the documentary is set to be released in selected cinemas located in the ten host cities of the European Championship.
In contrast to the “All or Nothing” documentary available on Amazon Prime, which focused on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, this project is being produced independently through a collaboration with the Hamburg-based company OMR. “The DFB is capturing the events surrounding the team as they navigate through this European Championship. Ultimately, we will retain the creative control to decide the documentary’s final direction,” explained sports director Rudi Völler (64).
DFB managing director Andreas Rettig (61) expressed his enthusiasm, stating: “We are excited to review this extraordinary summer in partnership with OMR, director Tom Häussler, and RTL, who has been a long-standing television ally of the men’s national team.”
National coach Julian Nagelsmann (37) emphasized the importance of nostalgia following the tournament, reflecting, “We viewed a selection of videos to rekindle emotions within the team and remind them of the beautiful moments we experienced.”
